Bids to be accepted for vacant lot

Palmerton has once again put out feelers for the sale of a vacant property in the West End of the borough.

For a second time, the borough will accept bids for the vacant lot at 910 Edgemont Avenue until 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21.Council agreed last week to readvertise the sale of the lot, after the borough's attempt to do so in August was rebuffed when no offers were received.Borough Manager Rodger Danielson said council chose to rebid the sale of the property after it was expressed that there may be a renewed interest in the land."A couple of people said they were really unaware of it before and were interested," Danielson said. "This might be a good time if people are looking to do something in the spring and summer, and to see if there is an interest in that now."As per the stipulations of the bid, the successful bidder must pay the purchase price in full by March 30.Danielson told the TIMES NEWS the borough doesn't have any particular asking price in mind. The property had been abandoned for many years until the borough took over ownership in Nov. of 2011.
