Youth Soccer sign-ups

Panther Valley Youth Soccer Association will be holding spring season sign-ups on Wednesday, Feb. 8; Tuesday, Feb. 14; and Thursday, Feb. 16, from 6-8 p.m., at McDonald's in Nesquehoning.There is a sign up fee. Each family is required to participate in the fundraiser or could choose a buyout. Fees are due at the time of registration. Sara Ruch, the Lansford-Summit Hill Partnership manager, will address the group and give her report as to the banners for the Ludlow Park Celebration to be held 2014 and the printing of the new walking tour brochure.Also to be discussed will be the Hill Top Community Center sign to be put in place this spring at the new hall located on Ludlow Street. It will begin at 10:30 a.m. The Sunday school will meet at 9 a.m.The youths of the church will take a special "Souper Bowl" collection to benefit the local food pantry and a congregational meeting will be held immediately following the service.Democrats meetNathan Halenar was re-elected president of the Jeffersonian Democratic Club, Summit Hill, during a reorganizational meeting held on Thursday, Jan. 26, in the Summit Hill Borough Hall.Other officers re-elected are Robert Crampsie, vice president; Joseph O'Gurek, treasurer; and Alice Kane, secretary.The guest speaker was Ronald Rabenold of Lehighton, a teacher in the Lehighton Area School District who is seeking the Democratic nomination for state representative in the 122nd Legislative District.By unanimous vote, the club members endorsed Rabenold's candidacy since a recent Supreme Court ruling places the borough in the district, as opposed to the redistricting plan that would have shifted the borough to the 124th District.Club members are currently circulating petitions for various offices to be filled by the electorate this year. They include president; U.S. Senate, where Robert P. Casey is seeking re-election; state representative and representative in the 17th Congressional District; as well as state row offices.
