Tamaqua driver dies of crash injuries

A Tamaqua man died of injuries he sustained in a one-vehicle crash Monday morning.

State police at Schuylkill Haven identified the victim as Mark G. Beltz, 59. The crash occurred about 10:35 a.m. along SR443, just east of the Renninger's Market complex in North Manheim Township, and not far from the entrance to Blue Mountain High School.Troopers said Beltz was operating a 2001 Ford Explorer eastbound when the vehicle went off the south side of the road for unknown reasons. After leaving the road the Ford traveled about 90 feet before striking a road sign. It then traveled up an embankment about 20 feet high.After cresting the top of the embankment the Ford struck some bushes and began to rotate clockwise as it began to descend the embankment, troopers said. As the vehicle descended it flipped onto its roof and re-entered the road, coming to rest in the eastbound lane.Beltz was taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center, S. Jackson St., Pottsville, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy is pending, troopers added.Assisting troopers at the scene were volunteers from the Orwigsburg Fire Company and ambulance and the Pottsville-Schuylkill Haven EMS unit.The investigation into the crash is continuing, troopers added.
