McAdoo Mayor Dane Watro and Police Chief Jeffrey Wainwright offer Halloween safety tips designed for the upcoming trick or treat night, scheduled for 6 to 9 p.m. on Oct. 31.
Children should be accompanied by a parent or trusted adult; visit only the homes where porch lights are on; avoid costumes that are too large or obstruct vision; costumes should be brightly colored, with reflective strips, and children should carry a flashlight or glow stick to be more visible to drivers; stay on the sidewalks and cross streets only at intersections, never from between parked cars; do not enter stranger's homes or speak to strangers on the streets; parents should check all treats before allowing children to eat them; discard unwrapped candy or treats; report any suspicious activity to police by dialing 9-1-1 or (570) 929-2590.
