Assault incident being probed

State police at Schuylkill Haven are investigating an assault incident that occurred in the Schuylkill County borough of Port Carbon.

Troopers said about 2:28 a.m. on Sunday, June 24, Casey Newhard, 22, of Port Carbon, pulled into an alley to the rear of 34 S. Coal St. She parked next to her neighbor's pcikup truck. As she was exiting her vehicle an unknown male, who was crouched behind the pickup, made verbal contact with her.

He then approached her and forced her to the side of her vehicle and eventually onto the ground. After striking Newhard and a brief struggle, she managed to free herself. The assailant fled north through the alley toward the bridge leading to Miller's Park.

The suspect was described as being a white male, in his early 20s, about six-feet tall, weighing between 150-160 pounds. He had blonde or dirty blonde hair, was wearing a black baseball hat with a flat brim. He also had on a gray zip-up hoodie, dark blue jeans and sneakers.
