Tamaqua driver facing DUI count

Published July 16. 2012 05:01PM

A Tamaqua driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) of a controlled substance following a one-vehicle crash. State police at Frackville said the accident occurred about 5:53 p.m. Friday, July 13, along SR209 in Walker Township, just south of the Tamaqua borough line.

Troopers said Kim K. Leary, 46, was driving a 1998 Dodge Caravan southbound when she traveled to the right off the road with the passenger side striking the guiderails. The van then veered to the left, crossed both lanes of travel, and overturned and came to rest off the road on its roof.

Leary was transported by Tamaqua ambulance to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, for treatment of moderate injuries. Troopers said Leary showed signs of being under the influence of illegal drugs.

A blood test was administered. Leary will be charged with numerous motor vehicle code violations. The DUI charge is pending test results, troopers added.
