AARP driver safety course slated
Blue Mountain Health System will co-sponsor an AARP Driver Safety Renewal Course on Thurs., Aug. 16, from 12-4 p.m. at the Bowmanstown Medical Plaza, 204 Bank Street in Bowmanstown.
The renewal course is designed for drivers 50 years of age or older and is classroom instruction only. The four-hour renewal course is for drivers who have previously taken the AARP driver safety course within the last 36 months or have an active discount on their insurance policy only. Drivers completing the AARP Driver Safety Renewal Course will receive a certificate which entitles them to a rate reduction on auto insurance. People who are interested in taking the course should confirm with their auto insurance company as to the discount percentage. The usual discount is five percent, and the certificate is valid for three years. AARP membership is not required.
AARP Driver Safety is celebrating teachers and school personnel this summer through its Educator Appreciation Promotion. Current and retired educators and school personnel (includes individuals who have been an educator, or have worked for a school district or university in any capacity: custodians, secretaries, aides, pre-school teachers, college professors, guidance counselors, school nurses, cafeteria workers, and even parents who home-school their children) are invited to attend an AARP Driver Safety classroom course for just $5 in July or August. Participants will not be asked to provide any form of educator information, but will be required to fill out a coupon on the day of class. For others, there is a fee to cover books and supplies: AARP members, $12; non-members, $14. Proof of AARP membership is required. Class size is limited and registration is required at (610)377-7070. Please bring a completion certificate from a previously taken driver safety course or proof of completion on your insurance and your own snacks and beverages.
