When Rusted Root had an opportunity to return to Penn's Peak, there was no hesitancy on agreeing.

"We love Penn's Peak," said lead singer Mike Glabicki. "It's one of the best venues in the country."In fact, the band is working on producing a new DVD and Glabicki is hoping some filming can be done at Penn's Peak for it. "I'm not sure yet if we'll be filming for the DVD."Rusted Root is at Penn's Peak at 8 p.m. Friday. Tickets at the door are $29.It's one of three concerts this weekend at Penn's Peak.On Saturday night, a Journey Tribute with Voyage feature Hugo formerly of Evolution. Special guest is Fleetwood Macked. The concert is 8 p.m. and tickets at the door are $25.Blues Traveler with opening act the Scott Weis Band performs at 8 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $32 at the door.Rusted Root is also working on a new album, which probably will be released in about five months. This is the first LP in nearly two years.The band formed in Pittsburgh in the early 90s and since has sold more than three million albums.In a phone interview, Glabicki said, said he enjoys the success of the band has had, but he still is giving priority to his health, especially because he is a parent."I'm working on keeping fit so I don't wear out on tour," he said. "We're a high energy band that gives it our all for every show."He and his wife have a 14-year-old son who is a drummer as well as being the official band photographer. The son has performed at some concerts with Rusted Root.At the Penn's Peak show, Glabicki said the audience will be given the music it is familiar with as well as some songs from the new album.Rusted Root, after forming, was embraced for their genre of roots music and world rock.Their debut album was 1992's Cruel Sun which they self released. This album helped them get signed with Mercury Records and their 1994 debut album with Mercury got Rusted Root noticed.When I Woke became a platinum selling album and featured the hit songs "Send Me On My Way," "Ecstasy" and "Martyr."They have played at Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival and toured with Hot Tuna, Santana, The Allman Brothers, Sting and the Dave Matthews Band. Rusted Root really enjoys appearing at smaller jam band/bluegrass events."We really enjoy the sort of more niche type festivals" says Glabicki, who added that their most memorable and highly coveted support role was on the Jimmy Page/Robert Plant Reunion Tour.Another highlight of their career, Glabicki said, was when NASA engineers chose "Send Me On My Way" as wake up music for the Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity.Glabicki said when he was growing up he idolized such stars as Led Zeppelin and Carlos Santana.He said a dream came true when the band toured internationally the first time in 1997.He urged fans to keep up to date with Rusted Root on the band's Facebook page.
