The Lehighton field hockey team followed up its first win over the season with another victory on Monday afternoon.

Kaycie Andrew helped the Indians take another step in the right direction in a key showdown with Pleasant Valley.The senior forward provided the lone spark that the defending Mountain Valley Conference champions needed to escape with a 1-0 victory."We're working our way up there," said Andrew, who has faith in her team to get back to its competitive self. "As we keeping going, I definitely think we can get to where we have been before."It's just going to take a little bit longer and a little bit more practice, but we definitely have what it takes."Often the Indians' Sarah Keer took the ball on her own stick and darted down the far sideline toward the Bears' posts during the contest.This time, with what turned out to be a 3-on-2 breakaway with Keer leading the charge, Andrew was able to sneak up along the near side of the post. Keer found her, and Andrew got her stick on the ball for what turned out to be the lone score of the afternoon with 14:59 left in the first half."We knew we had to start finishing off opportunities," Andrew said. "And I happened to be there. It was just a great pass from Sarah (Keer) and I was able to finish it off."After that, the two conference rivals battled back-n-forth the rest of the first half, and continued straight throughout the entire second half, and it gave first-year Indians' mentor Lamar Long a taste of his first Lehighton-Pleasant Valley showdown as a head coach.It wasn't about the sense of the rivalry that he so cared for, Long was simply concerned about the fact that this may have been the spark the Indians needed all along."This is definitely a great eye-opener," Long said. "It's our second win in a row, so hopefully we can keep the winning up and the momentum high. It was definitely back and forth all game long, but luckily we were the one who came out on top."The girls just kept their heads up and did what they had to do to get the job done. With this win, our spirits our even higher than before and we need to keep them there."As a Bears' player under retired mentor Bob Young, who was in attendance, first-year Pleasant Valley coach Angie Frantz stated it wasn't the outcome she wanted to see happen. She knows too well that her Bears will be ready for the second time around in Lehighton on October 7, however."It's unfortunate that we lost, but we definitely played a good game," Frantz said. "The next time I'm sure that we will be much better. They know what's expected of them every time they step out on the field and from this loss, they're going to take it and they're going to come back so hard next time."Lehighton improved to 2-3-1 overall (2-1-1 MVC), while Pleasant Valley slipped to 2-5 overall(2-2 MVC).
