Many questions arise from 9-1-1 house numbering project

Residents are asked to be patient in regard to the countywide 9-1-1 house numbering project, was the consensus of PolkTownship supervisors and staff.

It has been very busy at the township office as residents have called with questions and even dissatisfaction about some of the new addresses.Township personnel are searching for answers to those questions best as able in addition to their regular duties. Among the questions are when to notify other entities of the change, why certain addresses are what they are, and the like.Residents are reminded that the address is based on where the property exit is, not necessarily which road it faces.Explained Ruthanne Toner, recording secretary, after the meeting,"Residents do not need to worry about changing their address immediately," having been informed that residents could wait two months after receiving their respective address/change notification.That suggestion is affirmed by Kresgeville Postmaster Larry Kachmar, who calls attention to a letter from Carol A. Shenberger, Manager, Address Management, Central PA District.Her letter states that residents "may begin notifying your correspondents of your new mailing address; however it may take several months to up date their databases.'Her letter continues that the post office will re-direct mail for one year.Polk Township leadership is currently considering what the various components of the mandated signage should be in regard to size, color, etc. and will be getting input from the township's Volunteer Fire Company when the two entities meet to discuss the proposed burning ordinance this week since they and other emergency services will be making use of the posted property infromation.Roadwork, various proposed ordinances, an employee handbook, and possibly adopting an energy saving plan are all on the township work agenda.Also on the agenda is making a decision concerning the conditional use application of Salvatore Albanese and Jennifer Scott in regards to a request for a living unit with an existing garage for a relative on the same property as an existing residential dwelling based on the public hearing held at 6 p.m., preceding the regular monthly meeting.The supervisors have 45 days before rendering their decision, and indications were that it will not be made much earlier.The Board approved expenditures of approximately $320 for hiring a man and a grinder to smooth Trach Drive and the repair of a broom costing $300.The trio also approved donating $350 to Camp Cadet, $500 to the JC Park and $100 to the Monroe County Youth Event.The volunteer fire company had two structure fires in March as well as assisting other fire companies with the same and other incidents. All told, the volunteers had 17 calls in March and 47 year-to-date.A 90-day time extension was approved for the Vernon Frable minor subdivision as per the Planning Commission's recommendation and the township engineer will verify the sight distance as per The Woods major subdivision presentation.The next Board of Supervisors meeting is May 23, beginning at 7 p.m.
