Guilty pleas entered by nine

A Lehighton man, charged as an internet sexual predator, was one of nine persons facing criminal counts to enter guilty pleas in Carbon County court on Tuesday before Senior Judge Richard W. Webb.

Joshua D. Baer, 32, pleaded to one count each of unlawful contact with a minor and criminal use of a communication device.Baer was arrested by agents of the state Attorney General's office. He was charged with using the internet to make contact with a female. Baer, who went by the screen name "I love busty women 27," sent what he called "naughty" pictures during his chats with what he believed was a 14-year-old girl, including photos of his genitals. He was actually communicating with an agent of the AG office.Webb accepted the plea but deferred sentencing. Since the charges fall under the provisions of Megan's Law, Baer must undergo a sexual offenders evaluation. Webb also ordered the adult probation office prepare a presentence investigation (PSI) report.Other pleasOther defendants entering pleas included:Andrew Wargo Griffith, 32, of Jim Thorpe, pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance. He was arrested by state police at Lehighton with charges filed on Sept. 21, 2010.Webb sentenced him to serve six to 18 months in the county prison which is concurrent to a sentence he is currently serving on other criminal charges.Griffith pleaded guilty to arson charges and is currently serving a prison term on that and other charges including burglary and related counts.Kenneth John Carifi II, 18, of Effort, pleaded to two counts of theft from a motor vehicle and one count of criminal mischief. He was arrested on Aug. 13, 2010, by state police at Lehighton, for incidents along Wild Creek Trail in Beltzville.Webb placed him on probation for a year on each count, all running concurrently, and ordered he pay total restitution of $4,075.69 to various victims, and render three hours per month of community service while on probation.Christopher Paul Corradi, 31, of Middletown, Bucks County, pleaded to one count of false reports. He was arrested on Dec. 3, 2010, along Rock St., in Franklin Township, following a traffic stop.He was placed on probation for a year.Bruce E. Deibert, 45, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of simple assault. He was arrested on Feb. 13 at his residence in Franklin Township with Sherri Simmons the listed victim during a domestic incident.Webb sentenced him to serve three to six months in prison, make total restitution of $2,804.88, and have no contact with the victim. He was given credit for 66 days spent in jail on the charges.Christopher A. Poplin, 32, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count of theft by deception. He was arrested by Palmerton police for passing counterfeit bills. The listed victims are the Convenient Food Market, Joe's Place, Dollar Store and KNBT.He was placed on probation for a year and ordered to make total restitution of $500 and render 15 hours of community service.Nicole Rothdeutsch, 19, of Allentown, pleaded to one count of driving under the influence (DUI). She was arrested on Feb. 6 along Blue Mountain Drive in Lower Towamensing Township. Given a test, the result was .27BAC.Webb placed her on probation for six months, and ordered her to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, zero tolerance on D&A use, and pay a fine of $300. On a summary motor vehicle code violation she was fined $25 and costs.Shawn A. Wilt, 35, of Walnutport, pleaded to one count each of DUI and driving under suspension-DUI related. He was arrested on July 25, 2010, along SR209 in Franklin Township. Given a test, the result was .27BAC.Webb sentenced him to serve 30 days to six months in jail, and ordered he get a D&A evaluation, zero tolerance on D&A use, pay a fine of $750 and license suspended for a year.On the suspension charge he was sentenced to serve 90 days in jail, a fine of $1,000 and will receive another year suspension. The jail terms run concurrently.Wilt will begin the jail term on May 2 at 9 a.m. and was granted work release privileges.Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
