After being shut out by Nativity in their first game of the season, the Marian offense has come to life in a big way.

For the second consecutive game, the Colts plated double-digit runs, as they posted their second win of the season with a 13-2 five-inning Schuylkill League Division 3 victory over Weatherly.Marian (2-1, 1-1) has now scored 28 runs over the past seven innings.However, it was the Wreckers that put the pedal to the metal and struck first.Kevin Hinkle and Brett Stallone led off the game with a walk and single respectively. Hinkle then advanced to third on a fielder's choice ground out and came home on a Marian fielding error on a successful stolen base attempt by Christian Ormiston.However, rather than get rattled, Marian pitcher J.T. Keer beared down with back-to-back strikeouts to end the inning.The Colts responded by answering back with three runs in the bottom of the frame when Keer and Mark Stawick scored on a Weatherly fielding error and Ron Kozar was brough home with a Zack Motil RBI single."I was really interested to see how our team was going to respond after Weatherly struck first," stated Marian head coach Jeff Nietz. "We took advantage of their errors and we were very aggressive on the base paths (four stolen bases in the first inning), which I think forced some of their mistakes."Keer then struck out the side in the second inning and strung together six straight strikeouts as the senior leftie picked up his first win of the season in his first time pitching in a varsity game."We threw him out there to get him some experience because we felt like we needed a new arm with this marathon schedule that's coming up," added Nietz. "After that first inning, I think he got over the nerves of never pitching before. He found his rhythm and found his mechanics over those last two innings and ended up doing a very good job for us."In his three innings of work, Keer struck out seven, while allowing three hits, two walks and one earned run.Marian then scored six runs in the bottom of the second inning to blow the game open. A Dylan Latham RBI-double scored Justin Petrovich, while Motil delivered a bases-loaded single to score three runs. Latham was brought home on a wild pitch and Scott Morris added an RBI-single as the Colts took a 9-1 lead."One of our goals is to never give up a lot of runs, but to get a lot by bunching them together. I think we accomplished that today." said Nietz.The Colts continued bunching together runs in the third inning when they scored four more with the knockout punch coming off that bat of Ryan Gimbi. After four straight Weatherly errors opened the bottom of the third frame, Gimbi blasted a three-run homer over the left field fence to score Keer and Stawick.Errors and mental mistakes plagued Weatherly the entire game, as the Wreckers misplayed several balls and committed 10 errors on the afternoon."I was very disappointed with the amount of mental errors we made out there today. When you don't make routine plays that you're supposed to make, it gets very frustrating," stated Weatherly head coach Brian Kaminski."We start five sophomores and we had a freshman on the mound today," added Kaminiski. "I thought Tim (Lash) really pitched well, but our defense let him down big time."Motil led Marian with two hits and four RBI, while Keer delivered two hits and scored twice for the Colts.
