NW soccer, Palmerton stickers grab wins

Northwestern picked up a soccer win over archrival Northern Lehigh, while Palmerton slipped past Catasauqua in field hockey on Monday afternoon.

In other action, Jim Thorpe and Pleasant Valley picked up volleyball victories.


No. Lehigh-Northwestern

The Tigers walked off the field with a 1-0 Colonial League victory over the Bulldogs.

The Tigers' Drew Eichelberger tallied the game's lone goal with 17:19 left in the game. Jeremy Ettl was credited with the assist on Eichelberger's score.

Talon Williams finished with six saves between the Tigers' posts, while the Bulldogs' keeper Allan Sipos recorded seven.

No. Schuylkill-Jim Thorpe

Evan Hollen scored a goal in each half to help propel North Schuylkill to a 2-1 win over the Olympians.

The Olympians' Corey Ligenza spoiled the shutout 25-seconds into the second half with a score.

Justin Kaminski grabbed 24 saves in front of the Jim Thorpe net, while the Spartans' keeper Matt Roberts recorded 11 saves.


Millersburg blanked Weatherly for a 3-0 non-conference win.

The Indians' Larry Loncar recorded two goals and an assist, while Lucas Goncalves accounted for the other score.

The Wreckers' keeper Samson Walton recorded nine saves, while the Indians' Ethan Strauser grabbed three saves to preserve the shutout victory.



Kylee Turko lifted Palmerton to a 2-1 Colonial League victory over Catasauqua with a goal in 7:31 into the overtime period.

The Roughies' Natalie Schlofer scored a first half goal off an assist from Alysia Krautsack.

The Bombers' Jessica Pereira knotted the game up 23:55 into the second period.

Lydia Anthony grabbed nine saves between the Bombers' posts, while her counterpart Janae Matos finished with 10.

No. Lehigh-Bangor

Olivia Fleischer's first half goal was enough to help Bangor post a close 1-0 Colonial League win over Northern Lehigh.

The Slaters' Emily Howell was credited with the assist on Fleischer's score.

The Bulldogs' keeper Nicole Horn kept her team well within reach of a potential upset finishing with 10 saves, while the Slaters' keeper Casey Kiefer recorded one.

Northern Lehigh slips to 6-5-1 overall (6-3-1 CL), while Bangor improves to 10-0-2 (9-0-2 CL).

Pleasant Vy.-Easton

Easton posted itself a 2-1 non-conference win over visiting Pleasant Valley.

The Red Rovers' Brooke Sales and Michelle Couch scored first half goals. Lauren LaDuca was credited with the assist on Sales' score.

Katie Forte spoiled the shutout with the Bears' lone goal in the second half.

Hannah Bard grabbed five saves in front of the PV goal, while her counterpart Allison DeHaas ended up with six.


Williams Valley-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe scored a 25-22, 25-11, 25-18 victory in straight sets over Williams Valley.

Shannon Green paced the Olympians' attack with five blocks and two kills, while Riley Carroll chipped in with five assists.

On serving, the Olympians' Delaney Varano fired four aces.

In the JV game, Jim Thorpe needed an extra set to score a 20-25, 25-17, 27-25 win over Williams Valley.

Whitehall-Pleasant Vy.

Pleasant Valley got the best of Whitehall for a 25-23, 25-20, 25-12 non-conference win on the courts.

Breanna Joseph led the Bears with 11 kills and two blocks, while MacKenzie Dorney contributed 11 digs, two kills and one ace.

PV's Steph Schmitt finished with eight assists, four digs and two aces, while Kiersten Griesback recorded eight assists.

Pleasant Valley returns to conference play today against East Stroudsburg South.
