Palmerton angler sets state record

Ian Radler of Palmerton is the new Pennsylvania state record holder for bullhead catfish, breaking the previous Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission state record which had been established in 1983, with a fish he caught at Beltzville Lake.

Radler was fishing the evening of Monday, Aug. 22, when he caught a brown bullhead on cut bait near the Trachsville Bridge. His record fish had a certified weight of 4 pounds, 10 ounces, breaking the previous record of 4 pounds, 4 ounces set by Ed Lasorda of Exton with a brown bullhead he caught at Marsh Creek Lake in Chester County.State records are certified by the PFBC based on total body weight. Potential record fish must exceed the established mark by at least 2 ounces, as weighed on a certified scale. To be considered for state record certification, a fish must be caught using legal means, in season, from Pennsylvania waters open to the public, and without charge or fee. Fish taken from farm ponds, fee-fishing lakes, ponds or streams or in waters restricted to use by club members or their guests are not eligible for record consideration, and fish must be examined by staff from the PFBC - which is the only entity that can certify an official state record fish in the Commonwealth. Complete rules and application are available on the Commission's website at:
