Palmerton Area Library news update

Palmerton Area Library announced the following events that will take place at the library over the next few months.

Preschool Story HourPreschool Story Hour will resume on Sept. 2.Knitting ClubA knitting club has been organized for anyone interested in knitting, crocheting and other crafts. Ideas will be discussed about knitting for various charities. The knitting club meets on the first and third Monday of each month at the library from 6-8 p.m. The club is free. New members are welcome.Yoga ClassesYoga classes are continuing at the library. Classes are offered on Saturday mornings at 9 a.m. Participants should call the teacher at (570) 436-1762 for more information.Library Board of Trustees MeetingThe board of directors of the Palmerton Area Library meets the third Wednesday of each month at the library at 4 p.m. Meetings are open to the public.Friends of the libraryThe next meeting of the Friends of the Library will be Tuesday, July 12 at 7 p.m. Stop in the library to pick up a membership form or join online and find out opportunities to volunteer and serve the library. Visitors and new members are always welcome.Teen Advisory GroupThe Teen Advisory Group is for students in grades seven through 12 and meets at the library after school on the first Wednesday of the month. New members are always welcome. The group is currently remodeling and painting a section of the library basement.Watercolor Classes for KidsThere are ongoing watercolor classes for kids. Call the teacher at (610) 824-4962 for more information.Volunteer ProgramThe library has started a new volunteer program. Ask at the desk for a volunteer packet and sign up to help shelve books, work in the book sale, decorate the display window, adopt a shelf, help with the teen group, etc. Individuals must be at least 13 years old.First Annual Palmerton Area Library OpenThe First Annual Palmerton Area Library Open Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday, Sept. 17, at the Blue Ridge Country Club. Sign up your team now. Call the library for more information.Summer ReadingSummer reading programs are continuing at the library.Preschool Circle Time (ages 3-5) will feature stories, music and more and will be held in the gallery every Thursday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. through July 28.Summer Reading Club (grades K-6) will include stories, puppets, crafts, games, contests and service projects and will be held Fridays from 10:30-11:30 a.m. through July 29.An ending celebration will be held Friday, July 29, at 10:30 a.m. in the gallery. "Bugs, Baboons, and Story Tunes" will be presented by singer and guitarist/banjoist Tom Sieling, featuring humorous, participatory songs for kids that engage the whole family. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library, and is free and open to the public.Read Around the WorldAdults, teens and kids, sign up for the Read Around the World contest and compete in your age group. Add a link to the chain for each book you read during the summer months. New used books arrive daily.Computer Classes for SeniorsNew classes will start in the fall. Call to get on the waiting list.
