Pleasant Valley junior wins art award

Kayla Samuels, a junior at Pleasant Valley High School, second from left, won first place for her colored pencil and acrylic artwork of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in the Martin Luther King-Julianna V. Bolt Art Competition held every year for high school students sponsored by East Stroudsburg University. She received her award at ESU's annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. breakfast celebration. She competed against over 60 entries from all the high schools in Monroe County. Her artwork will be featured on the program for next year's breakfast celebration. She was recognized for her award at the PVSD school board meeting. Her mother and father, Karen and Rick Samuels, and PVHS principal, John Gress, were on hand to also congratulate her.
