Lansford man facing charges

Published August 16. 2011 05:01PM

Jeremy Accardi, 26, of 534 E. Bertsch St., Lansford, faces charges of making false reports stemming from an incident which took place 10:50 a.m. July 18, at his home.

According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Chief John Turcmanovich, here's what happened:

Turcmanovich received information about a male giving false information to a Carbon County sheriff's Deputy. Lt. David Midas of the sheriff's office reported that Deputy Evelyn Hydock attempted to serve a temporary protection-from abuse order to Accardi at his home at 10:50 a.m. July 18. Accardi told Hydock his name was "Joe" and said that Jeremy Accardi was his cousin.

Hydock asked the man for identification because he matched the physical description of Jeremy Accardi. The man said he had no identification on him. Hydock told him to have Jeremy Accardi contact the sheriff's office about the papers. The man said he would do that for her.

Later that day Midas printed two photographs for Hydock to see. She was asked to identify the man she spoke to while attempting to serve the papers. Hydock identified the man in the license card print as the man she had spoken to. The photograph was of Jeremy Accardi.

It turned out Accardi was wanted on a warrant from Luzerne County. The sheriff dupties picked him up, took him to the county prison and served him with the PFA papers.

Accardi waived the rights and told Midas that he gave Hydock the wrong name because he had heard from his aunt that there was a warrant out on him. Midas told Turcmanovich that Accardi was upset and physically shaking and asked Midas to write out his statement for him. Midas wrote the statement as Accardi dictated, and Accardi signed it.
