A Tamaqua woman faces a variety of charges following a hit and run incident in the borough on July 14.

Officers were dispatched to the area of 39 Hunter St. at 1:28 a.m. for a reported hit and run. According to police a neighbor was awakened by a loud noise and saw a vehicle strike the side of a home at 41 Hunter St. The resident was able to provide officers with a vehicle registration number, which came back to a blue 2000 Mercury. The Mercury was found parked on Cherry Street with the windows open and two wallets inside. One of the wallets contained identification for Allison Rose Tonkin, 20, of 212 High St.Tonkin arrived back at the car while the officer was checking the identification and admitted to driving the vehicle at the time of the hit and run accident. Patrolman Tom Rodgers detected an odor of alcohol coming from Tonkin, who then submitted to a field sobriety test. After failing the test, Tonkin was given a portable breath test, which indicated a blood alcohol content of .229 percent.She was cited for hit and run, underage drinking and driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI).
