Roy Evans of Weatherly had a hair-raising experience while picking huckleberries on Broad Mountain this afternoon when he unknowingly entered a rattlesnake's den. He had started his journey home with 13 quarts of berries in a pail. Avoiding heavy bushes, he began crossing a stony section when he realized he was surrounded by rattlesnakes. One managed to sink its fangs into his trouser. He dropped the berries and escaped without any other bites, nursing the wound when he got home.
