A former Coaldale resident was sentenced to a Carbon County prison term on Tuesday after pleading guilty to charges stemming from an incident in Lansford. He was one of several defendants in pending criminal cases to enter a guilty plea before Senior Judge Richard W. Webb.

James Scott Nahf, 44, pleaded guilty to one count each of persistent disorderly conduct, criminal mischief and a summary offense of public drunkenness.Nahf was arrested on April 6 when Lansford police was called to the rear parking lot of the Bank of America building, off SR209 (Patterson Street) to a man lying in the lot.Upon arrival officers found Nahf, who was highly intoxicated. Upon awakening Nahf he became unruly and disorderly yelling louder and using obscene language, police said. He had to be subdued by officers and then placed in a police cruiser. He then damaged a window on the cruiser.Webb noted that Nahf has a long list of prion arrests including six convictions for drunk driving. Webb added, "Obviously you have a serious alcohol problem."Webb sentenced him to serve six to 12 months in jail on the mischief and disorderly counts, with the terms running concurrently. On the drunkenness charge he was fined $100 and costs.Webb also ordered Nahf to get a drug and alcohol (D&A) evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, imposed zero tolerance on D&A use and make restitutiion of $1,274.65 to the borough for damages to the cruiser. However, Nahf has challenged that figure and Webb said he would conduct a hearing on the restitution figure at a later date.Nahf was given credit for 85 days spent in jail to date on the charges.Other pleasThe following entered pleas before Webb.Michael J. Sensky, 24, of Drums, Luzerne County, pleaded to one count of driving under the influence (DUI). He was arrested on March 20 along Berwick St., in Beaver Meadows, after being stopped for an equipment violation. Given a test, the result was .13BAC.Webb sentenced Sensky to serve five days to six months in prison, a fine of $300, get a D&A evaluation and a one year license suspension.He begins the jail term at 9 a.m. on July 6.Brandy L. Yagalla, 23, of Weatherly, pleaded to one count of DUI. She was arrested on Nov. 29, 2009, after being involved in an accident along SR534 in Kidder Township. Given a test, the result was .11BAC.Webb deferred sentencing until after a hearing is held on a restitution claim made by a passenger in Yagalla's car who was injured.Paul Zuzo, 40, of Summit Hill, pleaded to one count each of simple assault, possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.He was arrested on March 18 in the area of 127 W. Ridge St., Lansford. He was found to be under the influence, according to police, and struggled with officers. The police report indicated that Zuzo pulled a red bandana from his front pants pocket which was tied in knocks and had a metal padlock tied to the end of it. He made a gesture like he was going to swing it at Officer Brian Horos.In a plea bargain a charge of aggravated assault was dropped.On the assault and paraphernalia counts Webb placed him on probation for a year and for 30 days on the small amount of marijuana charge, all terms running concurrently.He must also get a D&A evaluation.Alejandro Hiraldo Sarita, 46, of Hazleton, pleaded to one count of DUI, a first offense. He was arrested on Oct. 24, 2009, along Interstate 80 in Kidder Township by state police at Fern Ridge after being stopped for speeding, 85 miles-per-hour in a 65 zone. Given a test, the result was .21BAC.Webb placed him on probation for six months and ordered he get a D&A evaluation.Paul Francis Gavornik, 52, of Jim Thorpe, pleaded to one count of DUI, a first offense. He was arrested on Oct. 20, 2009, along SR93 in Nesquehoning. Given a test, the result was .24BAC.Webb placed him on probation for six months and ordered he get a D&A evaluation.Daniel Schaller, 31, of Lansford, pleaded to one count of simple assault. He was charged for an incident on May 21 along E. Patterson St. in Lansford.Police said they responded to a domestic incident report and learned that Schaller and his girlfried, Karen Mantz, were involved in a dispute in which he allegedly struck her several times in the facial area.Webb sentenced him to time served (six days) to one year in jail and paroled him. He was ordered to get a D&A evaluation and attend anger management counseling.Brian Lee Werley, 42, of Hamburg, pleaded to one count each of persistent disorderly conduct and possession of a small amount of marijuana. He was arrested on May 14 by Lansford police following a domestic incident in the 300 block of W. Ridge St.According to police Werley and then girlfriend Sharoin Card had a dispute during which she reported jumped onto Werley's car as he drove off. She fell off and suffered injuries.The police report also indicated Werley had a handgun in a duffel bag in the car and also marijuana in the vehicle.Webb deferrred sentencing because their is a question concerning restitution, which will be looked into by the adult probation office.Each defendant sentenced must pay court costs and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
