Cash, property taken in break-ins

Substantial amounts of cash and property were taken in two separate burglaries which occurred at two Schuylkill County residences. State police at Schuylkill Haven investigated the break-ins. In one incident two juveniles have been listed as suspects.

The home of Howard Heberling, 85, of E. Grand Ave., Tower City, was entered by prying open a locked door on the side of the home. Removed was a quart container of dimes and nickels, a pint container of quarters and $2,800 in $20 and $50 bills. Total estimated loss was $2,900. The incident occurred sometime between 1 p.m. Monday, June 21, and 8 a.m. on Tuesday.In connection with this incident two juveniles, ages 16 and 13, both from Tower City, are suspects, troopers noted.The second entry occurred at the home of Thomas Scanlan Jr., 461 Blue Mountain Rd., in Wayne Township, Schuylkill Haven. Troopers said entry was gained by prying open a basement window. Once inside the criminals removed a 32-inch Samsung LCD television valued at $699 and about $1,200 in cash. Entry occurred sometime between noon and 4:30 p.m. on Monday.Anyone with information concerning either incident is asked to call troopers at (570) 593-2000.
