The Tamaqua Senior Citizens group met last week with 81 members in attendance. President Jean Machamer conducted the business session.Eleanor Roberts offered the invocation, entitled "Pennies From Heaven." Helene Clouser was welcomed back after an extended absence. Secretary Eleanor Schmerfeld provided her weekly report and treasurer Dolores Walck provided a monthly report. Vice President Doris Brobst added Ruth Long to the sick list and announced that Jean Yanick is currently in a nursing home.Jean Machamer offered a reading.The next meeting will be held May 20, at 1 p.m., at the Tamaqua Community Center, located to the rear of Boyer's Food Mart.Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.Class of 1970The Tamaqua High School Class of 1970 will hold a reunion in celebration of its 40th anniversary. The event will be held Sept. 11, from 6-11 p.m., at the Tamaqua Elks. The evening will include a buffet meal, cash bar and music. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at Harry's Grill, 14 N. James Cavellero will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. service in First United Methodist Church this Sunday.The Quilters continue to meet every Tuesday at 9:30 a.m.The Second Annual Summer Film Festival at First UM will begin June 27 with a presentation of the "Bells of St. Mary's." A total of four films will be presented: "Amazing Grace" on July 25; "The Ultimate Gift" on Aug. 22; and "Because of Winn Dixie" on Sept. 12. Showtimes will be at 7 p.m. The film festival will offer free admission and free refreshments.
