Miller-Keystone Blood Center will conduct a bloodmobile visit to the First United Church of Christ, next to Palmerton Borough Hall, on Tuesday, Feb. 9. Registration hours are 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. This visit is sponsored by Shea's Hardware.
Previous donors should receive a reminder phone call, inviting them to make an appointment. New donors are always needed, particularly at this time of year. Basic requirements are: minimum age, 17; minimum weight, 110 pounds; general good health; and no tattoos or body piercing within the last 12 months. Recent rule changes allow previous cancer patients who have been free of cancer for one year to donate. For specific information, phone Miller during office hours at 1-800-223-6667. To make an appointment, or for other information, call George at (610) 826-2097. New donors should bring photo ID, such as a driver's license. Previous donors should bring their Miller cards.
There will also be a Miller bloodmobile at the Palmerton Area High School on Thursday, Feb. 24, primarily for students and staff. Students are reminded that the school (not Miller) requires signed parental permission slips.
A new exhibit has just opened in the Feature Room of the Heritage Center, 410 Delaware Ave., Palmerton: a look back at the first 20 years of the Palmerton Area Historical Society, and five years of the Heritage Center. Special events are planned throughout the year; keep reading the TIMES NEWS and other local publications for details. The center is open Wednesday through Saturday each week at different hours. Phone (610) 824-6954 for a recording of details.
The men and boys of St. John's Lutheran Church will hold their monthly newspaper drive on Saturday, Feb. 6. There will be one sweep of the Palmerton, Aquashicola, and Little Gap areas beginning at 8 a.m.
Papers should be bundled and placed within sight of the collectors. They are collecting papers only, no magazines. Shiny inserts are acceptable. They also need brown grocery-size paper bags.
Persons missed, or those wishing to dispose of papers throughout the month may take them to the garage across from the church on Fireline Road, which is always open. In case of bad weather, the drive will be held the following Saturday.
A free community dinner will be held from 5-6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 9, at St. John's United Church of Christ, 891 Columbia Ave., Palmerton. Come and enjoy a free meal and fellowship.
