Raider Band Adjudication Festival Results announced

The scoring results from the13th Annual Land Of The Running Water Marching Band Adjudication Festival held Saturday Sept. 26, at Tamaqua have been announced.

The festival is sponsored annually by the Tamaqua Area Band Boosters.Four of the 14 bands performed their 2009 field shows at Tamaqua Area Sports Stadium, with the rest of the bands moving inside to the Tamaqua Area Athletic Center gym due to rain. It was the first time in the festival's history the event was moved indoors.As a result, only the first four scheduled bands were judged on marching. All the bands received ratings on music, general effect and for overall performance. Bands were rated by a panel of music educators on a scale from Poor to Outstanding.The Tamaqua Area Raider Band, as the host band, also received scores but was not in contention for the specialty awards.Of the bands that performed outside, the Panther Valley "Panther Pride" Marching Band received an Excellent rating for music, marching, general effects and overall, as did the bands from Shenandoah Valley and Hamburg. North Schuylkill received an Excellent rating for marching, general effects and overall and a Good rating for its music.Of the bands performing indoors, the following received Superior Ratings for music, general effects and overall: Wilson Area, Emmaus, Tri-Valley, Exeter Township, Southern Lehigh, Bangor, Pottsville and the host Tamaqua Raider Band.The Minersville and Mahanoy Area bands received Excellent ratings for music, general effects and overall.As for the Specialty Awards, Bangor took the prizes for Best Drum Major, Woodwinds and Band Front. Pottsville had the Best Brass section.Among the bands that played outdoors, Shenandoah Valley won for Marching and Manuevering.The Michelle J. Potlunas Memorial Award for Audience Appeal went to Exeter Township, which also won for Best Percussion.
