State police at the Schuylkill Haven barracks are investigating a hit-and-run accident that happened between 2:15-2:30 a.m. Dec. 30 on Schuylkill Mountain Road in South Manheim Township.

Police said the victim is William Betz, 62, of Schuylkill Haven, whose property was damaged by a runaway vehicle, possibly a Jeep Wrangler.Police said the vehicle was traveling west on Schuylkill Mountain Road when the driver failed to negotiate a right curve in the roadway. The vehicle crossed the eastbound lane of travel, left the roadway on the south side, traveled through the victim's front yard and struck a split-rail fence located along the driveway of the property.Police said about 35 feet of the fence sustained damages, as did the front yard of the property.
