St. Matthew's VBS

St. Matthew's UCC's Vacation Bible School will be held from July 30-Aug. 3. They are in need of volunteers to teach, assist and help in the kitchen.

Join Boy Scouts

Boy Scouts is for boys who are 11 years old, or who have completed the fifth grade or earned the Arrow of Light Award and are at least 10 years old, but not yet 18 years old. Boy Scouts learn everything from rock climbing, fishing, cooking, first aid, emergency preparedness, wilderness survival skills, plumbing, electricity, personal management, learn leadership skills, respect for others, and how important the community is, as well as family and much more. They are taught and instructed how to be good, strong leaders for the future.

Helping others

The Western Pocono Lions Club has donated over $4,000 during this fiscal year. Entities receiving financial aid are: Feed the Hungry, Salvation Army, Garden of Giving, Lions Clubs International Foundation, scholarships to local youth, Beacon Lodge, a campership to Beacon Lodge to an individual with sight-related problems, and the Northeast Eye bank.

In addition to financial support, the group gives hands-on help to the community.

Strawberry Festival

St. Matthew's UCC is holding its annual Strawberry Festival on Sunday, June 17 in the picnic grove, located on Grove Road, off White Church Lane, rain or shine. The worship service will be at 10 a.m. and the refreshment stand will be open from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. They need donations of homemade sponge cakes.

There will be a car show from 8 a.m.-3 p.m., registration until 12 p.m.

The entertainment will be the Quartet 5 from 1-4 p.m.

Zion Seniors

The Senior Citizen's Group at Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, will meet at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 14.

Participants are reminded to pack a sandwich. Beverages are provided.

Free dog program

West End Park & Open Space Commission will present a free dog training program at the Chestnuthill Park, Route 715, Brodheadsville, from 10 a.m. until noon, Saturday, June 16.

Debra Galan-Parsons will review AKC's training lessons, including the "Canine Good Citizen Program." Leashed dogs welcome.

Chestnut Ridge Seniors

The Chestnut Ridge Seniors will meet on Thursday, June 14 at 11 a.m. at the Kunkletown Volunteer Fire Co. They will be celebrating Father's Day, serving bean soup and playing Bingo.

They ask that everyone bring a donation of a nonperishable food for Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network's food pantry.

Historical society

Eldred Township Historical Society is looking for donations for its Chinese auction which will be held during the Kunkletown Volunteer Fire Company's carnival.

Salem St. Paul's Lutheran Church will honor its graduates from high school and college on July 15 at the 9:30 a.m. service.
