Advent at St. Matthew's

St. Matthew's UCC will observe the beginning of the Advent season this Sunday, Dec. 2 at its 9 a.m. worship service. The Journey to Bethlehem will be the theme. The Christmas tree will be decorated at this time and those who wish to place an ornament on the tree are asked to bring one that is related to the Nativity or the journey to Bethlehem, which will be returned to you if you put your name or initials on the back.

Christmas tree lighting

Polk Township's annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Veterans Memorial in Kresgeville.

There will be singing and refreshments. Santa will also be arriving.

The Veteran's Memorial is located on Route 209, across from the Kresgeville Post Office.

Parking is available at the post office or at Salem St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Rain date is Sunday, Dec. 2.

The West End Rotary Club will hold a club mixer at 6 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 29, at Luna Rossa Cafe.

School drama

The Pleasant Valley High School will present its annual drama, "Miracle on 34th Street," at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 30; at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 1; and again on Sunday, Dec. 2 at 2 p.m.

The group continues to meet at 9 a.m. every Wednesday and Friday at Zion United Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville.

Polk Township Tree Lighting

Polk Township's annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place on Saturday, Dec. 1, 7 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial in Kresgeville. There will be singing and refreshments. Santa will also be arriving.

Thanksgiving Mass

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will hold a Thanksgiving Day Mass at 9 a.m., Thursday. The church office will be closed.

On Friday, the regular Mass schedule will be followed and the church office will be open.

On Monday, there will be an 8 a.m. Mass and a 7 p.m. Communion Service, but no 7 p.m. Mass. The church office will be closed.

Thanksgiving service

St. Matthew's UCC, 102 Church Road, Kunkletown, will host Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network's community Thanksgiving service on Sunday, Nov. 18 at 3 p.m.

They will be collecting donations of nonperishable food and also taking up an offering. PVEN is in need of special donations for turkeys and hams for the holiday season.

Following the worship service, there will be a fellowship hour to meet our brothers and sisters involved with PVEN.

Donations of finger foods will be greatly appreciated.

Cornerstone is growing and now offers two worship services. Services are held Sundays at 8:30 a.m. and at 11 a.m. The church offers many programs for men, women, teens and children.
