Blood drive

The Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville will host an open Miller-Keystone blood drive today from noon to 6 p.m. Donors with a scheduled appointment will be taken first, but walk-ins are welcome.

Chestnut Ridge Seniors

The Chestnut Ridge Seniors will be meeting on Thursday, April 25 at 11 a.m. at the Kunkletown Volunteer Fire Co.

They will be playing the game, "Now You Have It, Now You Don't" and are asking those attending to bring donations to play the game. Also, bring a bag lunch.

Exercising seniors

There is a low-impact exercise class for those over 55 at the Kunkletown Volunteer Fire Company every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30-10 a.m.

When the District 14U Lions District convention was held last weekend, three local Lions groups were represented. Attending for the Effort Lions Club were Marvin and Joyce Aylsworth, Jim Hannon and Art Ponstingle.

PVE PTO meeting

Pleasant Valley Elementary School will have its monthly PTO meeting on Tuesday, April 16 at 4 p.m., in the all purpose room.

The Eldred Township Historical Society will meet on Tuesday, April 16 at 7 p.m. at the Eldred Township municipal building.

Special recognition

Marv Aylsworth, a member of the Effort Lions Club, was recognized for 35 years of membership when Lions District 14U District Governor Angie Mims visited recently. She presented him with his 2012 35-year certificate and his 35-year chevron he can wear with his Lions pin.

The West End Rotary Club will welcome Monroe County Controller Marlo Merhige at its Thursday, April 11, breakfast meeting. Merhige will speak about what a controller does.
