The Shepherd House Food Pantry at Ebenezer E.C. Church will be open on Saturday, May 12 from 9-11 a.m. Recipients must reside within the Jim Thorpe School District and fall within TEFAP income guidelines.

The pantry is located at 441 Center Ave. in Jim Thorpe. Please park in the Cherry Avenue parking lot and enter through the rear entrance.

Touchdown Clubmeeting scheduled

The monthly meeting of the Jim Thorpe Olympian Touchdown Club will be held this evening, Monday, May 7, at 6 p.m. in the commons area of the high school. Parents, relatives and friends are invited to attend. Plans for the activities for this month a car wash, Pizza Hut Night and Burger King Night, will be discussed and furthered.

Benefit concert

The Bach and Handel Chorale will be presenting a benefit concert on Saturday, May 5, at 3 p.m., in St. John's Lutheran Church, South Ave. The Chorale has been using St. John's as its "home" for over 25 years for rehearsal. They are showing their appreciation to the church, by presenting this concert.

Under the direction of Randall Douglas Perry, the Chorale will perform a variety of music. Donations will be accepted and will be contributed to the church for the organ fund.

The monthly meeting of the Jim Thorpe Democratic Association will be held on Wednesday, May 9, at 7 p.m. in the conference room at the Inn at Jim Thorpe.

The Jim Thorpe Borough Council will be accepting letters of interest for the following positions; Jim Thorpe Zoning Hearing Board and the Jim Thorpe Planning Commission.

If you are interested, letters must be received at the borough office, by 3 p.m. on May 10.

Each envelope should be marked for the board that you are applying. If you have questions call the borough office.

The next meeting of the committee planning the Jim Thorpe High School classes 1955-1965 reunion will be held on Monday, April 30, at 6:30 p.m. on the second floor conference room of the administration building on Center Avenue.

The memorial group of the committee is looking for some information about the classes. They are in need of class colors and class flowers for all classes. They would also like old photographs for a PC loop during the evening. All will be returned.

Smoke detectors

The Jim Thorpe Fire Department still has smoke detectors available for any borough resident who needs one. If you are interested, contact Bill Diehm, fire chief, at (570) 325-3890. He also states that the detectors are not for commercial properties.Positions available

The Sunday School of St. John's Lutheran Church, South Avenue, invites the congregation to join them for the annual Palm Sunday breakfast on April 1. The breakfast will consist of scrambled eggs, bacon, muffins, juice, coffee and tea and will be served approximately 9:45 a.m.

The Palm Sunday worship service will follow the breakfast at 10:30, with the celebration of Holy Communion. Installation of new members will take place during the service.

Community dinner set

St. Mark's Episcopal Church will host its free community dinner on Sunday, March 25, from 4-6 p.m. The menu this month is an Easter ham dinner.

LAOH Irish history essay winners listed

The sixth, seventh and eighth grade students from St. Joseph's Regional Academy participated in the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians Irish history essay contest. The essay was about Annie Moore, a young Irish girl who was the first immigrant (passenger) registered to pass through the now world famous immigration station Ellis Island on Jan. 1, 1892.

Community dinner

The next free community dinner will be held on Sunday, March 25, from 4-6 p.m., at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Race Street. An Easter ham dinner will be served to all that attend.

Soup and scripture

St. John's Lutheran Church, South Avenue, is holding a soup and scripture gathering on Wednesday evenings during this Lenten season. On Wednesday, March 21, the guest speaker will be Jack Gunsser, who will give a presentation on "science and creationism." The meal to be served this week at 6 p.m. will be vegetable soup.
