Service changes

St. Mark's/St. John's Episcopal Church, Race Street, has announced the following changes for the worship services. Due to the St. Patrick's Day parade on Sunday, the Sunday, 9:30 a.m. service has been changed to Saturday at 6:30 p.m. There will be a service on Sunday at 8 a.m. in the chapel.

Christ United Church of Christ will host a Jim Thorpe Community Venison Dinner at 5 p.m. Saturday, March 20 at the church. The church is located at Fourth and Center streets in Jim Thorpe. There is no charge for the dinner. Donations will be accepted.

Members of the LAOH will meet on Sunday, Feb. 28, at 7 p.m. in McGinley Hall. Plans for the St. Patrick's parade will be finalized at the meeting.

Community supper

St. Mark's/St. John's Episcopal Church, Race St., will hold its free community supper on Sunday, Feb. 28, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the church. Being served this month will be spaghetti and meatballs.

Touchdown Club meets

The Jim Thorpe Touchdown Club will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 16, at 6 p.m. in the commons area of the high school. Plans for the 2010 football season will be made. The parents, relatives and friends of the football program are invited to attend the meetings and help with any upcoming programs the club may have.

Food pantry

The Shepherd House Food Pantry at Ebenezer E.C. Church will be open on Saturday, Feb. 13 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Recipients must reside within the Jim Thorpe Area School District.

The pantry is located at 441 Center Ave. in Jim Thorpe. Please call (570) 325-2855 for more information or to volunteer.

This cold winter has meant high heating costs for some families and less money left for nutritious food.

Please remember to check on your neighbors and encourage them to visit the food pantry if they are in need of food assistance.

Community meeting

The third in a series of community meetings will be held this evening, Thursday, at 7 o'clock at the Phoenix Fire Company, West Broadway. Mayor Mike Sofranko, Chief of Police Joseph Schatz and members of the council will be on hand to answer any questions and concerns you might have about your neighborhoods.

Tryouts for the Jim Thorpe Drama Club production of "West Side Story" will take place on Saturday, Jan. 30, at 1 p.m. at the high school. The production is open to anyone 13 years of age and older. Bereavement Group

The bereavement group of St. Joseph's Church, will meet on Monday, Feb. 1, at 7 p.m. in the rectory, 526 North Street. The group is open to anyone and if you have questions you may call the rectory office at (570) 325-3731.
