The office of Terry McElmoyle, Jim Thorpe tax collector, will be closed Saturday, July 3, and Monday, July 5. It will reopen Tuesday, July 6.

St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Albrightsville will hold its first annual clothing give away. The committee will be collecting clean or new clothing on the following dates at the church; July 11, from noon to 4 p.m. and July 12-17 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The giveaway dates and times are Wednesday, July 21, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Thursday, July 22, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Friday, July 23, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Saturday, July 24, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Graduates honored

St. John's Lutheran Church, South Ave., honored the members of the church that were recent high school and college graduates. The college graduates were, Amber Bennick, Widener University, doctor of physical therapy; Matthew Dunbar, Bloomsburg University, bachelor of science in business administration; and Coral Swartz, Yale University, master's degree in bio statistics. Jim Thorpe Area High School graduates include Hilary Reis, Nicole Murlo, Jennifer Strohl and Brandon Grammes; and at CCTI, Kristy Rodgers, all of whom will be continuing their education.

LAOH slates meeting

Members of the LAOH will hold their monthly meeting on Sunday, June 6, at 7 p.m. in McGinley Hall.

Company sets meeting

Members of the Phoenix Fire Company will meet on Tuesday, June 8, at 7 p.m. at the company headquarters.

Arrow of Light awarded

Second year Webelo's of Jim Thorpe received the final and highest rank of Cub Scouting recently the Arrow of Light. This is a prestigious honor and the Scouts had to fulfill many requirements.

Bible school

The Ecumenical Vacation Bible School will be held this year in St. John's Lutheran Church, South Ave., July 12-16. Registration forms have been distributed to the local churches for the program which is open to children from 2 years to those that have finished sixth grade.

The theme this year is "Baobab Blast," God's Great Get Together.

There is a need for volunteer teachers and helpers in various positions. Those interested may contact Kathy Heller, (570) 325-2282.

Guest speaker

Lee Zink, Mauch Trust Company Wealth Management Division manager, will be the guest speaker this evening at St. Joseph's Bereavement group. The group meets in the Brogan room, located behind the church rectory at 7 p.m. He will be speaking on financial planning following the loss of a spouse. If you are suffering from the loss of a spouse you are invited to attend and listen to Mr. Zink

High Street closed

High Street closed

High Street will be closed to traffic beginning Monday, May 24 at 7 a.m. This is due to the reconstruction of the wall between 123 and 127 High St. Work will be done weather permitting and expected to be finished in August. If you have any questions, please call the borough office.
