Food pantry

The Shepherd House Food Pantry at Ebenezer E.C. Church will be open on Saturday Nov. 12 from 9-11 a.m. Recipients must live within the Jim Thorpe Area School District and fall within required income levels.

The Schuylkill-Carbon Marine Corps League will hold registration for this year's Toys for Tots campaign. Registration will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. The dates for November are 11,12, 18 and 19, and for December, the 2, 3, 9 and 10. The registration location for Carbon County residents will be at Salem Bible Fellowship Church, 1105 Frederick's Grove Road, Lehighton. This is the only location for registration. No phone calls will be accepted.

Members of the Phoenix Fire Company are beginning to plan their annual Christmas party to be held on Dec. 9, at the company headquarters. The company meeting at 6 p.m. will begin the evening of festivities. The party will follow the meeting. Reservations must be made by Dec. 3 and you may call Arlene, at (570) 325-4251.

All Saints Sunday, will be observed at St. John's Lutheran Church, South Avenue, on Sunday, Nov. 6, during the 10:30 a.m. worship service. In addition to prayers for those church members, who passed away this past year, a candle will be lighted as the organ chimes in memory of the loved ones.

The next meeting for the committee planning the joint class reunion of Jim Thorpe High School 1955-1965, will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 1, at 6:30 p.m. in the administration building of the Jim Thorpe Area School District, on Center Avenue. Any one that would like to join the committee in helping to plan the 2012 event, is invited to attend the meeting.

Parade route

The Jim Thorpe Halloween parade will be held on Sunday, Oct. 30, starting at 4 p.m. The parade route is as follows: It will begin at the Jim Thorpe High School and proceed down Center Street to Ninth and onto North Street. It will end at Second and Center streets.

The committee is asking that there be no parking along the parade route. Those parked along the route will be ticketed.

Community supper

A free community supper will be held on Sunday, Oct. 23, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 21 Race St., from 4-6 p.m. The meal for this month will be pork and sauerkraut.

Halloween party

The Sunday School of St. John's Lutheran Church, South Avenue, will hold its annual Halloween party on Monday, Oct. 24, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the church auditorium. The party is for youngsters of the Sunday School from nursery through sixth grade. There will be games, prizes and refreshments.

Tire pickup for the borough will be held on Saturday, Oct. 15 at Memorial Park, from 8 a.m. to noon. Tires must be off the rims and those wishing to discard them, must show ID that they are a resident of the borough.


The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be at Memorial Hall on Wednesday, Oct. 19, from 1-6 p.m. In order to be a donor, you must be 17 years of age.

National Night Out

Students, parents, seniors and groups of all ages are asked to join the committee to plan the first Jim Thorpe National Night Out.

The meeting will be held at the Jim Thorpe Borough Hall in the conference room on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 6:30 p.m.

This opportunity will allow residents to give back to their community and could also be a good project for students in need of community service hours.

A recruitment meeting for new Girl Scouts will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church, North Street, on Wednesday, Sept. 21, from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Christian Education Sunday observed

Christian Education Sunday, will be observed on Sept. 25, at St. John's Lutheran Church, South Ave. Sunday School will begin the day of events, at 9:15 a.m. Children of the Sunday School will be decorating the nave of the church, with the symbol of the day, the cross.
