Nesquehoning

Historical society

The Nesquehoning Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the borough hall, 114 W. Catawissa St.

During the meeting, Bob Dunstan Jr. of Lansford, formerly of Nesquehoning, will be giving a presentation on the lost town of Lausanne.

Dunstan is a 1970 graduate of Panther Valley High School and a lifelong resident of the area.

Spring fling

East Penn Elementary School Spring Fling will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 28. The event will include a free egg hunt for ages 0-10, a craft show with over 25 vendors and crafters, Kids Carnival, Chinese Auction with prizes including a Great Wolf Lodge Family 4 Pack, Iron Pigs Family pack, Lehigh Valley Laser Tag and more.

This event supports the East Penn Elementary PTO.

Ebenezer UMC

Ebenezer UMC, 119 S. Third St. in Lehighton, is having a pancake breakfast and Easter egg hunt on March 28.

Trinity Happenings

Sunday worship at Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third St., 9 a.m., includes Service of Healing and Blessing of the prayer shawls. The Service of Healing with prayers and the "laying on of hands" are said for those with emotional, physical or spiritual burdens to help one's loads be lightened.

Designated pastor the Rev. Nancy Moore presides. Coffeehouse fellowship follows.

Coffee connection

The Tamaqua Area Ministerium is sponsoring a three-part series as part of its community ministry program, titled "Coffee and Connection." The series is designed to encourage free and open conversations about God, the church and individuals.

The theme will be "Things We Wish Jesus Hadn't Said." Each meeting will focus on a different message.

The next meeting will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. at Vonz Restaurant on Tuesday. The theme will be "Love your enemy." The third session will be held on April 24 (Give away everything you have).

Golden Agers

The Panther Valley Golden Agers will have a scheduled meeting on Monday at St. John's Slovak Lutheran Church Social Hall, 1 E. Abbott St. in Lansford, beginning at 1 p.m.

Members are asked to wear something green to celebrate a belated St. Patrick's Day.

Yearly dues are still being collected.

Marian Catholic Class of '65 reunion

The 50th class reunion for the Marian Catholic High School class of 1965 will be held on May 24 at Capriotti Palasso's in McAdoo.

Slatington 150 History Committee

Due to overwhelming demand, the Slatington 150 History Committee will do a limited reprinting of its recently published book, "Slatington at 150 Years: More Stories To Share."

The initial printing of 500 books has sold out, and many people have already expressed interest in purchasing more copies.

Those interested in purchasing a copy of the book should send a check for $50 payable to Slatington 150 Committee and mail to Slatington 150 Committee, P.O. Box 151, Slatington, PA 18080.

Lenten services

Effort UMC meets in the sanctuary at 7 p.m. Each week the message will be given by a person from a different area of leadership within the church. Today's focus will be suffering and humiliation based on Mark 15:16-19.

On Sunday there will be a children's choir presentation.

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church offers Stations of the Cross at 7 p.m. every Friday in Lent. A fish dinner hosted by the Knights of Columbus will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday in McCawley Hall. There is a cost.

Palmerton Camera Club

The Palmerton Camera Club will meet at 7 p.m. March 26 at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church at 502 Lafayette Ave. in Palmerton.

There will be two events at this month's meeting: Birding Adventures in Trinidad & Tobago.

The speaker/presenter will be Brian Hardiman, educator for Monroe County Environmental Center, who will present a program on the two-island country of Trinidad and Tobago off the coast of Venezuela.

Trinidad & Tobago is a favorite bird watching destination that hosts a diverse array of animals and plant life.

Community egg hunt

The Tamaqua Community Easter Egg Hunt, sponsored by the Preceptor Alpha Upsilon Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, will be held at noon March 28. The event will be held at the Howard Buehler Memorial (Bungalow) Park, rain or shine.

The hunt is open to all children between the ages of 1 and 10 who live within the Tamaqua Area School District.

In addition to the egg hunt, the Easter Bunny will make an appearance, and grand prizes will be awarded in each category.

Summit Hill

Historical society

The Summit Hill Historical Society will meet today at 7 p.m. at the museum on West Ludlow Street.

Agenda items will include the Ludlow Park project, Hootenanny, bus trips, and other spring and summer programs.

New and inactive members are welcome to attend.

Baseball association

Lansford Baseball Association is still accepting sign-ups for T-ball, Little League, and Babe Ruth for players ages 5 to 15 and also for girls softball ages 8 to 14. Registration and fundraisers are required.
