Street sweeping

The Borough of Tamaqua will resume weekly street sweeping operations during the week of April 8. Several streets in the downtown area are permanently posted for Thursday and Friday street cleaning operations. These streets include Broad, Berwick, Center, Pine, Railroad, Nescopec and Swatara streets, which will be cleaned on April 11 and April 12, beginning at 7 a.m.

Additional streets will be posted, advertised and cleaned periodically.

A free community meal will be served from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, March 28, at St. John's Episcopal Church, 365 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton. The public is invited to enjoy a free meal and fellowship.

Lansford

St. John Lutheran

St. John the Evangelist Lutheran Church, 1 E. Abbott St., Lansford, will observe the following schedule for Holy Week:

Ÿ On March 28, Maundy Thursday service with Holy Communion will be held at 7 p.m.

Ÿ On Good Friday, March 29, a service of shadows Tenebrae will begin at 7 p.m.

Trinity Lutheran

Holy Week services at Trinity Lutheran Church, 104 E. Abbott St., will observed the following Holy Week schedule:

Ÿ Holy Thursday service with Communion will be on March 28 at 7 p.m.

Spring recess

Pleasant Valley School will dismiss early Wednesday, March 27, at 12:25 p.m. for the spring recess, and is scheduled to resume Tuesday, April 2.

Rotary speaker

Barry Dawson of West End Supporter will be the speaker at the Thursday, March 28, meeting of the West End Rotary Club. The club meets at 7:30 a.m. at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville.

Band Parents meet

Pleasant Valley Band Parents are scheduled to meet at 7 p.m., Thursday, April 4, at the high school in Brodheadsville.

Art salad bowl

An "art salad bowl," featuring the work of budding artists from the Panther Valley School District, will be held March 28 at the Tamaqua Community Art Center, 125 Pine St. Students artists of all ages will attend the free 6-9 p.m. meet and greet session.

Summit Hill

St. Paul's at a glance

St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 123 W. White St., Summit Hill announces the following schedule:

Palm Sunday worship service with Holy Communion will be held at 10:30 a.m. with Vicar Ben Seibert presiding.

A confirmation class will be held on Tuesday, March 26 at 7:30 p.m.

Maundy Thursday worship with Holy Communion will be held at 8 p.m. on March 28.

Good Friday worship will begin at noon.

On Saturday, March 30 an Easter vigil will be held at 6:30 p.m.

Holy Week

St. Matthew's UCC invites everyone to attend its many services and events during Holy Week.

It begins with Palm Sunday on March 24. At the 9 a.m. worship service, St. Matthew's and Effort UMC will combine their voices and present their Easter cantata. If you miss that service, Effort UMC will host an 11 a.m. service where the combined choirs will perform the Easter cantata again.

Schuylkill County's Master Gardener Program is looking for a few good volunteers. A meet and greet informational session will be held at 7 p.m., April 16, at the Ag Center, 1202 Ag Center Dr., Pottsville.

Anyone who loves gardening and is willing to help/teach others is welcome to apply.

Coaldale

Holy Week Services

The Rev. Dr. Wayne Benack, pastor of First Congregational Church, Coaldale, welcomes all to attend Holy Week Services at the church.

On Sunday, March 24, at 9 a.m., a Palm Sunday Service will be held with the distribution of palms. Sunday School will take place at 10 a.m.

A Passover Meal and Easter Story in scripture and song will be presented at 7 p.m.

Tuesday, March 26, at the church. The public is welcome to attend this event.

Choir rehearsal will take place at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 27.
