Bethany EC Church

Historical society

The Northern Lehigh Historical Society wishes to thank the Mickley/Fravel Charitable Trust for its recently awarded grant to defray the installation costs of automatic shut-off/low-flow water faucets in the restrooms at the Slatington Trailhead and Trout Run Covered Bridge.

Al-Anon Family Groups

Al-Anon Family Groups meet at different locations in the Palmerton Area.

From 7-8 p.m. on Monday evenings, Al-Anon Family Group/Serenity Seekers meet at Salem United Methodist Church, 4145 Forest Inn Road, Palmerton.

Alateen support group for teens of families struggling with alcohol and Adult Al-Anon and AA meetings are from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesdays at Faith Alive Church, 678 Pine St. Palmerton/Bowmanstown.

Courage to Change Al-Anon Family Group meets from 7-8 p.m. Thursdays at St. John's UCC, 891 Columbia Ave. Palmerton.

The Western Pocono Lions Club will meet at 7 p.m. today at the Old Mill Pizza Restaurant in Sciota.

Rotary speaker

The West End Rotary Club will have guests Rachel Ann Stalcoskie and Bruce Kolar, owners of Rachel Ann's Country Clips Pet Grooming, at the Thursday meeting.

Gwendolyn and the poodle Isolda will also be attending.

The club meets at 7:30 a.m. Thursdays at the Western Pocono Community Library in the community room.

Al-Anon meetings

Al-Anon group will meet Mondays at 7:15 p.m. at St. Katharine Drexel Church Hall, 120 E. Abbott St., Lansford.

Al-Anon is a nonprofit, worldwide support organization helping families and friends of loved ones suffering from addiction.

Chestnut Ridge Seniors

The Chestnut Ridge Seniors will meet at 11 a.m. Jan. 22 at the Kunkletown Volunteer Fire Company. Bring a bag lunch and vacation pictures for a Show and Tell/Vacation Picture Day. They will be playing bingo.

Mrs. Bush's

The History of Monroe County Education Series by the Monroe County Historical Association is being hosted by Mrs. Bush's Personal Care Homes Inc., Kunkletown. The free presentation is open to the community and will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mrs. Bush's, 302 Kunkletown Road.

Rush-Ryan seniors

The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met Jan. 13 at the Ryan Township Fire Company in Barnesville with 44 members in attendance. The business session was conducted by President Eleanor Schmerfeld.

Chaplain Kathleen Valentine offered the invocation "There Is Always Someone Who Cares." A moment of silence was held in memory of Eleanor Zakrewski. Two new members, Jane Neidlinger and Phil Price, were welcomed.

School taxes

The Tamaqua Area School District is accepting Assessed Occupation Tax exemption applications for the 2015-2016 school year. This will cover the 2015 calendar year. This year's forms are orange.

Retired people and those with no earned income who have previously been exempted do not need to file again unless their status has changed and they are now earning income.

Also, those who are disabled or at least 75 years of age who have been specifically notified of their exemption by the district need not file an application.

Golden Agers

The scheduled meeting for the Panther Valley Golden Agers will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at St. John's Slovak Lutheran Church Social Hall.

Bingo will be played.

If the meeting is canceled due to inclement weather, members will be notified by phone.

Hospitality committee for January and February will be Mary Ann Maynard and Diane Gould.

Dues are still being collected for the year.
