Board of health

The Tamaqua Board of Health held its March meeting with Earl Boettger, James Gormley, Shirley Becker and Health Enforcement Officer James Barron in attendance.

Food bank and dinner

The food bank at Meed's Methodist Church in Nesquehoning will be held on March 17 from 1-3:30 p.m.

The community dinner will be held on March 30 from 5-7 p.m.

Senior Boxes will be given out on April 1 10 a.m. to noon.

All seniors are reminded that sign-ups will be held at this pick up, previous and new.

Please bring proper paper work with you along with ID and proof of income.

Northern Lehigh Historical Society

The Northern Lehigh Historical Society will meet on Wednesday, March 30, at the Lehigh Gap Nature Center.

It will open with a business meeting at 7 p.m., followed by a presentation by Dan Kunkle, executive director of the Nature Center. Kunkle will conduct a tour of the new visitor and education center.

The PVI PTO will meet at 4:15 p.m., Wednesday, March 16 in the school library.

Safe Haven Pet Rescue

Safe Haven Pet Rescue will have a volunteer meeting on Tuesday, March 15, at 6:30 p.m., at Cherry's Sunset Family Restaurant, Route 209, Kresgeville. All local animal lovers are welcome to attend.

Safe Haven Pet Rescue is a group of people based in the West End of the Poconos, who save highly adoptable pets from high-kill and overcrowded shelters and find them loving homes. The number one cause of death to cats and dogs is shelter killing.

Palmerton Lions club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 21, at the Fireline Hotel, Palmerton. A special presentation will be made to Tammy Muniz of Palmerton who serves as Palmerton High School Leo Club adviser. Members are busy planning their "community spirit night" to be held on Monday, May 2 and are also planning a health fair to be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 14, at the Palmerton Community Center, franklin Ave., Palmerton. The health fair is being co-sponsored with the Blue Mountain Health System.

Sorority news

The local Preceptor Alpha Upsilon and Xi Beta Epsilon Chapters of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority celebrated a Ritual of Jewels Degree March 2 honoring Pat Kibbler. Preceptor Chapter President Lori Schmerfeld conducted the ceremony.

Jim Thorpe Touchdown Club will hold its monthly meeting Monday, March 14 at 6 p.m. in the commons area of the Jim Thorpe Area High School. All parents of seventh and eighth grade, junior high and high school football players are invited to participate. The Touchdown Club is the fundraising club for the football program. Paranormal society at historical society

The March 14 meeting of the Palmerton Area Historical Society will feature a presentation by the Blue Mountain Paranormal Society. Members will discuss their findings from last fall's investigation at the Little White Church and its graveyard.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the second-floor gallery of the Palmerton Library. There will be a short business meeting followed by the presentation. The public is invited to attend, without cost or obligation.

PV Golden Agers

Panther Valley Golden Agers will resume their meetings on Monday, March 14 at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Hall, Summit Hill.

The hall is handicapped accessible.

Chorus practice will begin at 11 a.m. (weather permitting).

Hospitality for March and April are Sue Dopira, Verna Lazorchik and Betty Marek.

Members are asked to wear green in honor of St. Patrick's Day for the meeting.
