JROTC

The next meeting of the JROTC of the Panther Valley High School Nov. 11 at 6 p.m. Discussion will include fundraisers and the Christmas party.

PV Elementary School

The annual Halloween parade by the students and staff of the Panther Valley Elementary School is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 29. Students will dress in costumes after lunch and the parade will commence from the elementary school at approximately 1:45 p.m.

NL Halloween Parade

The 103rd annual Northern Lehigh Parade will be held Saturday. The parade will form at 5 p.m. Streets will be closed to traffic at 6 p.m. The parade starts at 6:30 p.m.

Fairview Seniors

A trip to Ehrhard's to celebrate October Fest was the latest excursion for the Fairview Seniors. The group is making more plans for other adventures. On Tuesday, Oct. 26, the group had hot dogs, cider and doughnuts for Halloween and gave Crosses in Pocket made by club members to Operation Touch of Home to send to service men and women overseas

VFW Ladies Auxiliary

The VFW Laddies Auxiliary will host a Miller Bloodmobile collection will be held at the post Wednesday, Oct. 27.

Summit Hill

St. Paul Lutheran

Reformation Sunday will be observed on Sunday, Oct. 31, in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Summit Hill.

The worship service will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will be preceded by the weekly Sunday school session at 9 o'clock.

Boot camp

The Tamaqua Salvation Army is sponsoring a Christmas "Boot Camp" to help people prepare for the busy holidays ahead. Topics to be covered include: gift giving, keeping to a budget, cookie/dessert planning, Christmas cards, decorating ideas, establishing holiday traditions, handmade gift items and more.

The weekly "camp" will begin Oct. 28 and continue Thursday evenings through Dec. 9. Camps will be held, from 6:30-8 p.m., at the Tamaqua Salvation Army Community Center, 105 W. Broad St.

Chestnut Ridge Seniors

The Chestnut Ridge Seniors will meet on Thursday, Oct. 28 at 11 a.m. Join in the Halloween fun and wear a costume. Bring a bag lunch. Cider and doughnuts will be served. They will play bingo for prizes.

St. Matthew's UCC in Kunkletown will hold its annual Halloween Party on Sunday, Oct. 24 at 5 p.m. Come dressed in costumes and win a prize. There will be games and refreshments.

TEPTO

The Tamaqua Elementary Parent Teacher Organization met Oct. 12, in the school library, with 40 members in attendance. The group discussed the Raider Run, trick or treat and a book fair.

Safe trick or treat at the Tamaqua Elementary School will be held Oct. 25, while trick or treat at Rush Elementary School will be Oct. 26. Rush students will have a Halloween parade on Oct. 29. Details can be found in student folders.

A book fair is scheduled at Rush Elementary School. Family night will be Oct. 28. The public is welcome.

Rush-Ryan seniors

The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met Oct. 12 at the Ryan Township Fire Company, Barnesville, with 45 members in attendance. President Eleanor Schmerfeld conducted the business meeting. Chaplain Kathleen Valentine offered an invocation.

Reports were presented by treasurer Shirley Becker and secretary Florina Martin, who also provided inspirational readings. Birthday wishes were extended to Louise Horn.

The annual Christmas party will be held Dec. 14.

Harvest Home celebration

Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville will celebrate Harvest Home Sunday during the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services on Oct. 24. Nonperishable food items as well as garden fruits and vegetables are welcome.

All items will be used to help those in need in the community.

Free historical movie

On Sunday, Oct. 24 at 1:30 p.m., the Western Pocono Community Library will present the historical movie "A More Perfect Union: America Becomes a Nation," in the Community Room at the west end of the library.
