Bethany EC Church

Sunday worship, the Rev. Jeff Stansbury, pastor, 10:45 a.m. Sunday school at 9:30 a.m. with classes for all ages, including adult Bible study class. Evening service, 6:30 p.m.

The Tamaqua Public Library's Teen/Young Adult Book Club will meet at 6 p.m. Monday. The theme is "Exploring the World in Books." This month will concentrate on Ireland and St. Patrick.

New members are always welcome.

Rush taxes

Rush Township Dolores Walck has announced that her tax office will not open until March 25. Mailed tax payments will be accepted during this time.

AARP driver class

This Saturday and next, from 1 to 5 p.m., an AARP Driver Safety Class will be offered at the Chestnuthill Park Building in Brodheadsville. It is for drivers 50 and older, but no AARP membership is required. There is a registration fee.

Class is taught by an unpaid, trained volunteer.

A four-hour refresher course, for those who have taken the full course in the past three years, will be offered May 16 at the Chestnuthill Park Building.

Lansford

Community Lenten worship service

A community Lenten worship service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, 1 E. Abbott St., Lansford.

All are welcome.

Bible study is from 6 to 6:45 p.m.

Bring a sandwich to enjoy while feasting on God's word.

If PV schools are closed or close early because of weather, the service and Bible study will be canceled.

Historical society

The Northern Lehigh Historical Society meets at 7 p.m. the on the fourth Wednesday of the month at Slatington Borough Hall.

The meetings are held in conjunction with the Venture Group's planning meeting for The Gathering.

Gardening workshop

The Schuylkill County Master Gardener's program is offering two gardening workshops this month to residents of Schuylkill County.

The first is all about the vegetable patch and will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on March 25. Learn everything you need to know about seed starting, soil preparation and growing vegetables.

Bad weather reduces blood drive turnout

Miller-Keystone Blood Center's Palmerton-area community blood drive on March 3 drew 49 potential donors, despite one of this winter's frequent storms. There were 52 units of blood collected.

The drive was sponsored by Irene Shinsec, Bonnie Snyder and John Oblick, all in memory of Jean Behler.

The following donors reached gallon levels: Kyle Ahner, 11 gallons; Brian Wanamaker, 6 gallons; Dale Green, 4 gallons; Maureen Leaswitch, 2 gallons; and Henry Williams, 1 gallon. There was one first-time donor.

Golden Agers

Due to weather conditions, the Panther Valley Golden Agers meeting scheduled for Monday will be canceled.

The next scheduled meeting will be March 23.
