Trinity Happenings

Sunday worship with Holy Communion at Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third St., is 9 a.m. and includes recognition of those baptized in 2014. Designated pastor, the Rev. Nancy L. Moore, presides. Coffeehouse fellowship follows.

Sunday School classes meet for students ages 3 through grade 12 at 10:30 a.m. Level I and II (grades seven and eight) confirmation classes meet at 10:30.

The annual congregational meeting follows the worship service next Sunday. No Sunday School and confirmation classes on Jan. 18.

Band Parents

The monthly meeting of the Pleasant Valley Band Parents will be at 7 p.m. Thursday in the high school in Brodheadsville.

OES meets

Monroe Chapter 99 Eastern Star will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Masonic Lodge on Rimrock Drive.

Keep Sunday Holy

The ecumenical group, Keep Sunday Holy, which is a group of local churches that treasure Sunday mornings for family spiritual growth, will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the cafe at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church.

Concourse Club

The Palmerton Concourse Club will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. John's Evangelical Church, 2915 Fireline Road Palmerton.

With holiday decor packed away, maybe the house is looking a little bare.

Award-winning designer Dolores Baker of Decorating Den Interiors in Walnutport will offer ideas on how to put some sparkle back into our homes.

Holy Trinity

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton, will hold worship services at 8 and 10:45 a.m. Sunday. Sunday school is at 9:30 a.m.

St. John's

Wednesday service at St. John the Evangelist Lutheran Church, 1 E. Abbott St., Lansford, 7 p.m., Holden Evening Prayer Service with Holy Communion.

For those who wish to come early, a free, simple supper will be served at 6 p.m. and a brief Bible study is held at 6:30 p.m.

Service will not be held if school is canceled or dismissed early due to bad weather on Wednesdays.

Diabetes support

St. Luke's University Health Network will again sponsor a diabetes support group. Monthly meetings will begin in April and be held from 6 to 7 p.m. in the health network's Miners Hospital Campus in Coaldale. With the exception of the April meeting, the group will meet in the ground floor community room. The April 29 meeting will be held in the second-floor cafe.

Each month, a different diabetes topic is explored. Topics are based on ways to improve blood sugar control and quality of life. Meetings include a question and answer period.

Chestnut Ridge Seniors

The Chestnut Ridge Seniors will meet at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Kunkletown Volunteer Fire Company. Bring a bag lunch. They will be playing bingo.

Exercising seniors

There is a low-impact exercise class for those over 55 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday at the Kunkletown Volunteer Fire Company.

Adult Day Care

The Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care Center has a variety of activities planned for January, including a review of New Year's resolutions.

Other activities for the month include: Wednesday, sing-along with Audrey Christ; Jan. 9, painting class; Jan. 12, snowman can craft class; Jan. 16, Eskimo craft class; Jan. 21, Salvation Army visit; Jan. 23, National Pie Baking Day; Jan. 30, scrapbooking session.

In addition to weekly sing-alongs, exercise sessions, a variety of therapies and social games, the center provides for hairstyling and manicure service.

Al-Anon group to meet Mondays at 7:15 p.m. at St. Katharine Drexel Church Hall, 120 E. Abbott St., Lansford.

Al-Anon is a nonprofit worldwide support organization helping families and friends of loved ones suffering from addiction.

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will celebrate Mass in honor of the Solemnity of Mary, a Holy Day of Obligation, at 4 p.m. Wednesday, and at 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

Saturday worship

Effort UMC will hold a Saturday worship service at 6 p.m.

Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville holds a Saturday service at 5 p.m. Holy Communion will be celebrated. This service will now be held every Saturday, not just the first Saturday of the month.
