Jim Thorpe edges Blue Bombers

Jim Thorpe gained its first tennis win of the season while eight Pleasant Valley basketball players participated in the annual Perryman-Keglovits Basketball All-Star games.

TENNISJim Thorpe took two of the three singles matches to help claim a 3-2 tennis victory over Palmerton.Straight-set wins by John Lowin and Luke Eggert helped the Olympians (1-1) gain their first triumph of the season.Thorpe also received a doubles win from the team of Roman Raytsis and Luke Carter.For the Bombers (0-2), Rich Roselli cruised to a straight-set victory at No. 1 singles.Jim Thorpe 3, Palmerton 2SINGLESRich Roselli (P) def. Alex Hummer/Jordan Dopsovic 6-1, 6-2.Perryman-KeglovitsAll-Star GameEight Pleasant Valley seniors closed out their scholastic basketball game, competing in the 13th annual Perryman-Keglovits All-Star Basketball games at ESU's Koehler Fieldhouse.The Perryman teams won both contests as the girls registered a 60-49 victory and the boys earned a 79-63 win.In the boys contest, five Bears players participated with four of them contributing to the winning club. Eric Marbury hit for 12 points while fellow PV teammates Nyiem Nevarez (seven points), Bryan Sharpe (six) and Eric Mikulski (five) all added to the comeback win.The Perryman boys, who received a team-high 14 points from Stroudsburg's Danny Cuevas, trailed 33-30 at the break before rallying in the second half.For the Keglovits squad, Tyerell Mann of Notre Dame-ES had a team-high 13 points. PV's Ron Moore finished with four points.In the girls game, Jackie Benitez of Pocono Mountain West poured in 31 points to lead the Perryman team to an 11-point win.Pleasant Valley's Jenesa Fields contributed four points to the winning cause.The Bears' Shante Benjamin paced the Keglovits squad with 19 points, while PV's Shayna Keefer also played in the contest.The annual senior game is played in memory of former East Stroudsburg standout Arthur Perryman and former East Stroudsburg and ESU coach Al Keglovits.All proceeds from the game go toward cancer research.
