PathStone holds Touch-a-Truck event in Lehighton
They may not have realized it yet, but, the experience they gained will assuredly go a long way in teaching them about the real world.
Children at the PathStone Carbon County Head Start building at 110 N. Third St. in Lehighton were recently greeted with a surprise,
In recognition of National Public Works Week, members of the Lehighton Public Works Department, along with borough Manager Dane DeWire, brought their equipment to the school for the students to enjoy.
The event was called Touch-a-Truck, as about 60 children ages 3-5 from the PathStone Carbon County Head Start building participated, according to Lori Roke, campus director.
As part of the program, Roke said PathStone Carbon County Head Start treated the Public Works Department to a free lunch in the form of pizza and beverages.
“It’s to thank them for all their hard work; it’s important work they do to help keep our streets safe and secure so our families are able to get here,” Roke said. “We’re thankful for everything they do for us.”
Roke said the children were stoked to look outside their windows and see the equipment.
“They’re super-excited waiting their turns, beeping the horns,” Roke said.
Aaron Lora, 5, said his favorite part was the “orange truck,” and “the big sweeper that pushes the dirt forward.”
Kaiden Anthony, 5, said he liked the cleaner because “it has the sweeper on the bottom.”
Public Works Department Supervisor Kris Kunkle said seven members of the department were on hand.
“It’s a great opportunity (for the children),” Kunkle said. “The kids are able to visualize.”
