CCEDC unveils Adventure Race location

Members of the Carbon Chamber of Economic Development Corporation announced Thursday that the second annual Carbon Adventure Race will be held at the Blue Mountain Resort.

The announcement was made at the Slopeside Pub and Grill in the resort for potential competitors who were on hand for the event."We wanted to announce it here and let competitors use their imagination for what they can expect," said Alice Wanamaker, CCEDC member relations director. In a change from last year, where the race was held in different locations around Carbon County, all of the Adventure Race's challenges will be held on the mountain this year. "We thought we'd utilize one of the great locations of Carbon County, and bring the businesses here instead of sending competitors to the businesses. Our goal is to do something fun and crazy while highlighting Carbon County businesses," said Marlyn Kissner, CCEDC executive director. The race is being sponsored by six county businesses, including Mauch Chunk Trust, Adams Outdoor Advertising, and Full Moon Video. Each sponsor will be hosting one of the individual challenges. The race, organized by the Carbon Youth Professionals Council, will be made up of several challenges at different locations on the mountain. Teams will have the choice of doing a physical or mental challenge at each location."It's a lot like 'The Amazing Race.' We're going to challenge people and their spirit, but the main idea is still to have fun. People who come out are going to laugh a lot," Wanamaker said.Paula Fritzinger, who attended the announcement with husband James and son Chad, competed in last year's race with her husband and placed in the top five teams. "Our main goal is going to be to have fun. Of course, competition is going to be at the forefront, but we had so much fun last year, and that's what we're looking for this year," Fritzinger said. The Carbon Chamber will also be holding a pre-event mixer for the race from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on June 17 at Nick's Lakehouse in Lake Harmony. Registration will be available along with an opportunity for participants to get a lead on the competition.First- through third-place winners of the race will receive cash prizes, and first-place winners will also receive a trophy. All participants will receive bags with a T-shirt and gifts from the sponsors.A flash sale will be in effect through Wednesday. Use the coupon code JUNE2015 to save $5 on registration.
