Fifty years ago, the idyllic community envisioned by Penn Forest resident Josiah W.H. "Cy" Behrens became a reality, known as Bear Creek Lakes.

Following negotiations with Blue Ridge Real Estate Company in 1963, theproperty was purchased and designated to be the site of a lake and development.Construction of the lake, which covers about 160 acres, was completed within one year and stocked with bass and trout.The 1,300-acre community, nestled along Route 903 in the Pocono mountains, is now home to approximately 800 residents.Members of Bear Creek Lakes will celebrate 50 years throughout theweekend of Aug. 8-10 with a variety of activities for all ages.Events include a bonfire, scavenger hunt, sand creations, art walks, sports, picnics and much more.The three-day celebration was planned to welcome residents of all ages to join the fun.
