Schuylkill planners ok proposed medical building; other actions taken

Permission was granted by the Schuylkill County Planning Commission for construction of a medical center building in Girardville.

The action was taken at its monthly meeting Wednesday in Pottsville. The building will be operated by the Girardville Area Medical and Professional Center and will be located along Third St.Extension of time to allow Eagle Rock Resorts Company, with office in Hazle Township, Luzerne County, to complete its plans for two new subdivisions, Hidden Forest Phase 1 and 2 under development in East Union Township, was granted. The developers asked for the extension until the board's April meeting because it is currently working with Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to resolve issues with the proposed stream crossing that will affect the storm water/storm-water facilities. and are also awaiting confirmation for the High Occupancy Permit from DEP.An extension of time was also granted Buck Mountain Wind Energy, LLC, of San Francisco, Calif., for installing windmills on Buck Mountain in Mahanoy Township. After a lengthy discussion on lots with steep slopes the commission has denied the Eagle Rock's application of lots greater than 33 percent slope in its AW South Subdivision in North Union Township but approved a conceptional grading plan for lots greater than 25 percent slope. On some lots construction of retaining walls are recommended.Eagle Rock informed the commission that the grading plan for certain lots is conceptual only and attempts to demonstrate one of many ways each lot could potentially be built on and it is not intended to provide a mandatory grading scheme for each lot because it is impossible to know the future intentions of each property owner.Sue Smith, executive director, informed the members she was notified by Air Products and Chemicals Inc., 357 Marian Avenue, Rush Township, that it has applied to DEP for an air quality permit renewal.Zoning permitThe commission reviewed zoning permits issued to the following:Bruce and Suzane Hunt, North Union Township, construction of a single family dwelling at estimated cost of $422,965; James Nagle, Middleport, residential assessors structure for $9,800; John Renninger, Gordon, addition of porch with roof, $21,155; Michael and Jane Wolfe, Palo Alto, addition to home, $13,000.Also, Padfield Propane, LLC, East Norwegian Township, commercial office building, $100,000; Saint Michael's Lutheran Church, Upper Mahantongo Township, addition of porch roof over driveway and walkway, $30,000; Kenneth and Lynnette Keim, Tower City, residential addition, $12,000 and T&T Mobile Home Park, Washington Township, residential mobile home replacement, $42,400.ReorganizeThe commission held its reorganization meeting and re-elected the current officers, Gary Bender, chairman; Charles Ross, vice chairman; and James Setlock, secretary.
