The Lehighton Area Music Department will present a choral concert at 7:30 today in the high school auditorium.

The school is celebrating its 59th annual Christmas Choral Concert and this year's program is entitled, "Frozen…A Winter Celebration!"The LAHS Concert Choir is comprised 75 young men and women vocalists. This ensemble will be singing selections from the Disney movie, "Frozen."They will be singing some Nordic tunes as well as the main song from "Frozen." This mixed choir will sing traditional hymns and Christmas popular songs. Highlights will include "Blow, Blow, Thou Winter Wind" with text by William Shakespeare and written by John Rutter.The Concert Choir is directed by David Perkins and the group is accompanied on piano by Emily Cerimele, Amanda Treible, and Noah Williams.The female members of the choir will sing a new Christmas song written for treble voices. The male members of the choir will also have their opportunity to perform alone, as they describe Mary in their selection entitled "The Faint Music." "Faint music" is descriptive of Mary singing lullabies to hush her baby's sleepy sighs.Selections from two animated films will be featured in the program.The vocal jazz ensemble, Varsity Voices, will perform music in a jazz swing style.The Music Express Show Choir will also perform as they present an uptempo show which will feature selections from "Frozen."The choir is an auditioned group of more than 20 members who sing and dance during their performance. This award-winning show choir has performed in California, Florida, New York, New Jersey, Georgia, and Toronto, Canada.Members of the choir have been selected to perform in Europe, County, District, Regional, All-State ACDA Choirs, All-State PMEA Choirs, All-Eastern Chorus ACDA, All-Eastern ACDA Honor Choirs, ACDA National Choirs, NAFME(MENC), All-Eastern Choirs, and NAFME National High School Honor Choir.Most recently, Ellen Perkins was selected and attended the National Choir in Nashville this past October. Ellen and Noah Williams were selected to PMEA District 10 Chorus Festival in January.Ellen Perkins was also just selected to NAFME (MENC) All-Eastern Chorus in Providence, Rhode Island in April.Donations will be accepted to help defray costs for the choral department.The LAHS Boosters will also be selling some items and holding a raffle prior to the program.
