Women's Bible study
The Women's Ecumenical Bible study will resume on Wednesday, Sept. 11, in St. John's Lutheran Church, South Avenue at 6:30 p.m. They will be studying the Gospel of Mark. Joan DeAcetis will be the leader. The group meets on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month and all women of the community are invited to join the group.
The current Jim Thorpe Area High School cheer squads are hosting an alumni night at the football game on Friday, Sept. 13. There will be a practice from 4:30-6 p.m. prior to the game. St. John's Church news
St. John's Lutheran Church, South Avenue, will hold a celebration worship service and dinner on Sunday, Sept. 22. During the 10:30 a.m. worship service, the newly renovated organ, baptismal area, chimes, vestments and accessories for the acolytes and readers will be dedicated. Following the service, there will be a ham and chicken dinner served in the auditorium of the church. Reservations will be taken until Sunday, Sept. 15, by Irene or Dave Remmel. Rally Day kicked off the new year of Sunday School at St. John's. During the program, students who received Bibles for completing the third grade curriculum were Mikayla Marks, Trinity McFayden, Haile Weaver and Kacie Weaver. The theme for this year's program is birds and in conjunction with this, there will be a bird release on Sunday, Sept. 15, between the Sunday School hour. The bird release is a symbol of peace, prosperity, success and hope. Sunday School begins at 9:15 a.m.
Jim Thorpe Demos to meet
The Jim Thorpe Democratic Association will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 7 p.m. at the home of Ronald Sheehan, 823 Center Ave., Jim Thorpe.
Edith Lukasevich, president, will be in charge of the session.
