St. Joe's wins D-5 CYO title

St. Joe's of Jim Thorpe captured the girls basketball championship of the District 5 CYO League. St. Joe's posted an 11-1 record.

St. Joe's advanced to the District 4/District 5 playoffs at Cardinal Brennan High School where it finished in third place. St. Michael's of Minersville won the District 4/District 5 tourney and eventually went on to capture the Allentown Diocese title.Following are St. Joe's playoff results:PLAYOFFSSt. Joe's-St. AmbroseSt. Joe's opened the District 4/District 5 Tournament with a 37-28 win over St. Ambrose of Schuylkill Haven. Kayley Kovac led St. Joe's with 23 points.St. Joe's-St. Michael'sSt. Joe's fell to St. Michael's of Minersville, 34-26. The game was tied at 24-24 heading into the final quarter before St. Michael's pulled away. Kayley Kovac and Nicole Salerno scored 13 and nine points respectively to lead St. Joe's.St. Joe's-St. Pat'sSt. Joe's remained alive in the double-elimination tournament by defeating St. Pat's, 38-28. Kayley Kovac had 20 points to lead St. Joe's. Nicole Salerno chipped in 12 points.St. Joe's-St. AmbroseSt. Joe's edged St. Ambrose of Schuylkill Haven. 29-28. Kayley Kovac and Nicole Salerno tallied nine points apiece to lead St. Joe's.St. Joe's-St. Matthew'sSt. Matthew's ended St. Joe's season, 35-24. Kayley Kovac's 10 points led St. Joe's.
