365 Mental Health Day of Inspiration event to be held in Lehighton

Fight the stigma and raise mental health awareness.

That’s the goal of the 365 Mental Health Day of Inspiration event, scheduled to be held on Saturday at the Lehighton Football Stadium.

The cost of admission is $7 in advance, or $9 on the day of the show. The rain date is Oct. 27.

It will start out with two youth flag football games that will feature players from the Palmerton, Pleasant Valley, Moore and Lehigh Valley Bucks flag teams.

The games will pit Palmerton against Pleasant Valley at noon, followed by Moore Township versus the Lehigh Valley Bucks at 2 p.m.

From there, the winners of those two games will go on to play each other.

However, the main event is an inspirational flag football game at 7 p.m., according to John Dowbachuk, board member and coach with 3675 Elite Sports Corp.

Dowbachuk said the inspirational flag football game will consist of individuals with mental health challenges, and will include a half-time show featuring Another Day Dawns.

“We talked about all the stuff we take for granted. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could bring this type of activity to people with mental challenges,” Dowbachuk said. “Give these kids like a Super Bowl kind of experience they wouldn’t normally have.”

Dowbachuk said the plan is to split the proceeds in half, with 50 percent going toward some type of charity for mental challenges, and the other 50 percent being charitable within the community.
