State police at Stroudsburg said someone tried to cash two checks made out to the Monroe County Veterans Association of Bushkill valued at $24,900 each.

Troopers said unknown individuals attempted to cash or deposit the checks at the Discover Bank in Greenwood, Delaware.

During the incident at 7:58 a.m. on Nov. 21, one check was attempted to be cashed. Then at about 9:46 a.m. the same day an additional check was attempted to be cashed at the same location. The victim’s bank was aware of the potential fraudulent checks and did not cash or deposit them.

The investigation is continuing, troopers added.
