Penn Forest ends recycling

At its March 4 meeting the Penn Forest Township Supervisors approved a motion to end its recycling program.

Township Chairman Warren Reiner said that things have changed since the township originally instituted the recycling program.

“It’s costly and no one is paying for the recyclables any longer,” Reiner said. “Also people don’t follow the simple rules and we end up with more garbage then recyclables in the bin.”

Reiner also pointed out that neither the state nor the county require the township to offer recycling.

“We are not the only township getting rid of recycling, a lot of the other townships around us have as well,” Reiner added. “Hopefully in the future we can get back to it, but not for now.”
