Palmerton makes staffing moves

Palmerton Area School District made several staffing moves during its board meeting Tuesday night.

The board unanimously hired Adrian Bumbulsky as an elementary teacher at $47,250, effective upon release from a current employer.

Bumbulsky currently works in the Panther Valley School District. Districts can hold departing teachers for up to 60 days, depending on their staffing situation.

“I spoke with the superintendent where Adrian is coming from and there is a chance they could move quicker than 60 days, but there is the potential it could take that long,” Palmerton Superintendent Scot Engler said.

Bumbulsky will teach fifth grade at Towamensing Elementary.

Other hires included Maizie Heiney as an instructional aide in the high school life skills class at the rate of $14.91 per hour, and Michelle Kovacs and Aimee Mink as cafeteria employees at $12.68 per hour.

Lisa Wentz resigned her position as cafeteria worker, effective Aug. 17.

The board made the following extracurricular appointments: Miranda Allen, secondary specialist department co-chair; Carol Andrews, high school health/physical education department chair; Anna Corby, high school English department chair; Jose Elvir, high school world language department chair; Michael Gombert, high school social studies department co-chair; Paul McArdle, high school social studies department co-chair; Jeanne Knepper, high school science department chair; Whitney Kern, secondary specialist department co-chair; Tom Smelas, high school business education department chair; Bonnie Tavella, high school English department co-chair; Pamela Wuest, high school math department chair; and Deanna Iles, Sixth Sense co-adviser.
