Northwestern boys, girls get soccer wins

Northwestern picked up victories in boys and girls soccer on Friday.

FIELD HOCKEY

Northwestern-Lehighton

Lehighton edged Northwestern, 3-2, in non-league action.

The Indians jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead behind goals from Karissa Hough and Makenzie Hoats. Alicia Shaffer added a second goal for Lehighton (3-1).

Northwestern (1-1) got second half goals from Brynn Balliet and Mckenzie Mosebach.

Northwestern had a 15-12 edge in shots. Angeline Romito had 10 saves in the Indian goal.

GIRLS SOCCER

Northwestern-Wilson

Maggie Motolese led the Tigers with three goals in an 8-0 Colonial League victory over Wilson.

Sara Hathaway added two goals while Jillian Fink, Olivia Motolese and Jenna Lowthert also had goals.

Northwestern improves to 3-0 on the season and Wilson drops to 1-2.

ES South-Pleasant Valley

Brianna Clark scored both goals for Pleasant Valley in a 2-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over East Stroudsburg South.

Goalkeeper Samantha Merklin needed to make just one save to record the shutout for the Bears (4-0, 3-0).

ES South goes to 0-3 after the loss.

BOYS SOCCER

Northwestern-Wilson

Luke Taylor scored a pair of goals to lead Northwestern to a 2-1 Colonial League victory over Wilson

The victory lifts Northwestern to 2-0 in league play and 2-1 overall.

Tajae Turner scored the lone goal for Wilson (3-2, 1-2).

Warrior goalie Drake Brackett kept his team in the game with 18 saves.

Jim Thorpe-Blue Mountain

Carlos Colindres scored the only goal of the game as Blue Mountain blanked Jim Thorpe 1-0 in a Schuylkill League game on Thursday.

The victory was Blue Mountain’s (1-3) first of the year.

Jim Thorpe falls to 1-1-1.
