A Bethlehem man pleaded guilty in Carbon County court on Tuesday to one count of indecent assault and also to theft counts involving a store where he was once an employee.

Charles David Shafer, 28, pleaded guilty to two counts of retail theft with counts in two other retail theft cases dropped but restitution due for incidents at the Walmart store in Mahoning Township. He was an employee at the store for some of the thefts.He also pleaded to one count of indecent assault for an incident on Jan. 4 filed by Lehighton police. He admitted inappropriately touching a female in a vehicle near the lower park in the borough.The assault count falls under the provisions of Megan's Law. Shafer must undergo an evaluation by the state sexual assessment board to determine if he is a sexually violent predator. Sentencing was deferred and a presentence investigation report was also ordered by Judge Joseph J. Matika, who accepted the pleas.
