State police at Frackville reported on two, one-vehicle crashes investigated by troopers on Schuylkill roadways.
The first crash occurred about 10:22 a.m. along Route 339 (Brandonville Road), in Mahanoy Township, on Tuesday.Troopers said George J. Zambroski, 66, of Shenandoah, was driving a 1997 Ford Crown Victoria and negotiating a slight left curve when, for unknown reasons, he either fell asleep or lost consciousness. The car traveled across the southbound shoulder and struck a utility pole, shearing it off. The car then continued crossed both lanes of travel and onto the opposite shoulder where it struck an embankment, where it came to rest.Zambroski was injured and taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-E. Norwegian St., Pottsville. A passenger, William G. Horwath, 61, of Mahanoy City, was not injured. Troopers cited Zambroski for careless driving.Assisting at the scene were volunteers from the West End Fire & Rescue, Mahanoy City, Shenandoah ambulance, and Mahanoy City police.The second crash occurred about 4:42 p.m. on Wednesday, along Route 54 in Mahanoy Township. Troopers said Raymond R. Miller, 69, of Mahanoy City, was driving a 1996 Buick Roadmaster westbound in an area known as the "Vulcan" when his vehicle struck a rock which had fallen onto the roadway from a nearby embankment.Striking the rock caused the passenger side front tire to flatten. Miller drove to the top of the hill and pulled over for safety reasons. He and his passenger, Dolores L. Miller, 67, same address, were not injured. Troopers said the roadway was cleared of fallen debris.
