Parole, probation hearings held

Carbon County judges conduct parole/probation revocation hearings on petitions filed by the adult probation office against defendants who violated the terms of their release.

Hearings were held for the following:George Kulkusky, 47, of Hazleton, had his parole revoked on a charge of simple assault on petition of probation officer Joseph Bettine for violating conditions by failing to complete drug and alcohol treatment, failing to complete 75 hours of community service, and still owing fines and costs.Judge Joseph J. Matika resentenced Kulkusky to serve three months back time effective Nov. 2 at 9 a.m. However, if he completes the D&A treatment and community service and pays off all remaining costs by that date the order will be vacated.Ryan Yackanicz, 24, of Beaver Meadows, had his parole revoked on a driving under the influence charge on petition of Bettine for violating conditions by testing positive for opiates, failing to complete D&A treatment and failing to complete 25 hours of community service.Matika resentenced him to serve three months of back time effective Jan. 31, 2016. However, if he completes the D&A treatment and community service by that time, the order will be vacated.Sabrina Kulp, 36, of Jim Thorpe, had her parole revoked on charges of DUI and possession of a controlled substance on petition of probation officer Derek George for violating conditions by testing positive for amphetamines, which violated the zero-tolerance condition.Judge Steven R. Serfass resentenced her to serve out her maximum term, which runs to Aug. 11, 2019. The order states Kulp must serve 90 days before being eligible for a new parole, is not eligible for parole until D&A treatment is completed and is not eligible for work release.Jestin Schaeffer, 29, of Lansford, had his parole revoked on a charge of theft on petition of George for violating conditions by testing positive for opiates, which violated the zero-tolerance provision.Matika resentenced him to serve the balance of his maximum which runs to Aug. 4.Anthony Bombico, 47, of Jim Thorpe, had his parole revoked on a charge of DUI on petition of George for violating conditions by testing positive for marijuana, which violated the zero-tolerance provision.Matika resentenced him to serve 90 days in the county prison effective May 7.Michelle Lee Hartman, 45, of Lehighton, had her probation revoked on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia on petition of George for violating conditions by testing positive for multiple controlled substances, which violated the zero-tolerance condition.President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II resentenced her to serve 90 days to 12 months in prison effective June 19.Dennis Takacs, 31, of Lehighton, had his parole revoked on a charge of receiving stolen property on petition of George for violating conditions by failing to report to the probation office as directed, and failing to submit to scheduled urine screens, which violated the zero-tolerance condition.Serfass resentenced him to serve 45 days in prison effective June 23.Joshua Romanishan, 37, of Lehighton, had his parole revoked on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia on petition of probation officer Jillian C. McGinley for violating conditions by failing to report to the probation office as directed, and failing to report for weekly urine screens, which violated the zero-tolerance condition.Matika resentenced him to serve out his maximum term, which runs to Dec. 18.Ashley Matz, 21, of Jim Thorpe, had her probation revoked on a charge of hindering apprehension or prosecution on petition of Bettine for violating conditions by testing positive for opiates multiple times, admitted using heroin, and being unsuccessfully discharged from D&A treatment.Serfass resentenced her to serve three to six months in prison with credit for 34 days already served. She will not be eligible for parole until Jan. 27, 2016. She is eligible for work-release privileges.Tisha Staehle, 35, of Newfield, New Jersey, had her probation revoked on a DUI charge on petition of probation officer Clifford Eckhart for violating conditions by failing to report to the probation office as directed, absconded from her approved residence with whereabouts unknown, testing positive for controlled substance, failing to engage in D&A treatment, testing positive for alcohol and failing to perform 25 hours of community service.Serfass resentenced her to serve two to four months in prison with credit for 109 days already served.Dion Smith, 27, of Palmerton, had her probation revoked on a charge of retail theft on petition of probation officer Kimberly Cooper for violating conditions by testing positive for buprenorphine and opiates and not obtaining a D&A evaluation.Matika resentenced her to serve 30 to 90 days in prison effective May 29, but must serve the entire 90 days with work-release privileges granted.Jeremy Whiteman, 35, of Palmerton, had his probation revoked on a charge of resisting arrest on petition of Cooper for violating conditions by testing positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, which violated the zero-tolerance conditions.Serfass resentenced him to serve 90 days to 16 months in prison effective June 3. He is eligible for work release. His minimum release date is Sept. 1.Tara Hunter, 37, of Palmerton, had her probation revoked on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia on petition of Cooper for violating conditions by testing positive for amphetamine and being unsuccessfully discharged from D&A treatment.Serfass resentenced her to serve 90 days to 12 months in prison effective June 3. She was granted work-release privileges. Her minimum release date is Sept. 1.Ryan Rehrig, 35, of Palmerton, had his probation revoked on a charge of resisting arrest on petition of Cooper for violating conditions by testing positive for suboxone, his whereabouts were unknown and was unsuccessfully discharged from the Salvation Army rehabilitation program, which violated the zero-tolerance condition.Matika resentenced him to serve three to six months in prison.Daniel Hughes, 27, of Albrightsville, had his parole revoked on a charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance on petition of Bettine for violating conditions by testing positive for opiates, which violated the zero-tolerance provision.Matika resentenced him to serve 30 days "street time" in prison effective June 10.
