Thorpe routs Panther Vy.

Versatility.

That's the word that best describes Jim Thorpe's performance against rival Panther Valley on Friday. The Olympians versatile offensive attack was too much to handle for the Panthers, as five different Thorpe players scored on the night, en route to a 57-0 non-league victory.Panther Valley (2-1) brought some momentum into its matchup with Thorpe, having won its first two games of the season and it showed early on.The Olympians (3-0) had some trouble moving the football on their first two possessions, punting the ball away. But that changed quickly, as Thorpe took advantage of good field position on back-to-back possessions, which in turn setup two Justin St. Hill scores. St. Hill scored from 15 yards out the first time, after JT started on its own 42 after a PV punt. He then added another score from two yards out, not even a minute later after Max Schlenner intercepted a Hunter Kennedy pass and returned it to the PV nine.Just like that, it was 13-0 in favor of the Olympians with 1:18 remaining in the first."We knew Panther Valley was playing well and they had playmakers, and we emphasized to our kids that we were not going to sleep on them," said Thorpe head coach Mark Rosenberger. "We came in focused and determined to get out to a good start and we were able to do that."St. Hill got going in the first quarter and then it was teammate C.J. Selby's turn. Selby broke off a 47-yard touchdown in the second and a 50-yard touchdown in the third. He finished the night with 129 yards rushing on just five carries. But the Olympians had more than one big scoring play on the night. Besides Selby's long scampers, quarterback Nick Rosahac took one in from 32 yards, and also caught a 49-yard touchdown pass from St. Hill. In all, Thorpe had six scores of 32 yards or more."Once we made some adjustments and switched some things up, our athletes made some great plays. Our offensive line really stepped it up after our first couple of possessions and then our kids just made plays," said Rosenberger. "All around it was just a great performance from all of our kids, when we follow through on our assignments, a lot of our athletes can bust out, and that's what happened tonight."The Olympians' defensive line was once again dominant, holding Panther Valley to minus thirteen rushing yards and just 101 yards of total offense.Thorpe established itself defensively from the onset, forcing Panther Valley to punt on its first three possessions and then forcing an interception on the Panther fourth possession."Jim Thorpe showed us exactly who we thought they were and that's a really good football team," said Panther Valley head coach Scott Price. "Their defense was tough tonight, we knew we would have trouble running the football against their front, and we did. "We were able to complete some long passes in the game, but we could never capitalize on those plays, we never got anything going. It was a humbling experience, we just have to get back to work this week and get better."THORPE'S VERSATILITY ... Running back Justin St. Hill rushed for 60 yards and three scores and threw for a 49-yard touchdown. Quarterback Nick Rosahac rushed for a touchdown, caught a touchdown pass, and threw for 44 yards.DOMINATING D... The Olympians were in the Panthers backfield all night, sacking PV quarterback Hunter Kennedy four times. The pressure on Kennedy also resulted in three interceptions. PV also punted the ball six times on the night.
